Re: Dependency trouble trying to install VMWare View Client

Found the solution here: http://hyperinfo.wordpress.com/2014/04/03/horizon-view-client-on-debian-based-linux/ Using the Horizon View Client on Debian (Ubuntu/Mint) based distributions gives some problems. Basically, the solution is to use multi-arch and libssl0.9.8 from Ubuntu (i386). You will want ...

Re: [SOLVED] LMDE install briefly turns on webcam. Why?

Busy! Yep, I just added Debian Jessie repo and apt-getted the 3.13 kernel.

Re: [SOLVED] LMDE install briefly turns on webcam. Why?

I've been meaning to write an install guide, but haven't gotten around to it.

LMDE on the C720 simply runs and runs great. I needed to upgrade the kernel to get the kernel modules for the touchpad to run, but other than that everything works out of the box. Other than that, uneventful :-)

Re: LMDE install briefly turns on webcam. Why?

Thanks! I see I should have searched for Cinnamon in combination with webcam, not Linux Mint.

[SOLVED] LMDE install briefly turns on webcam. Why?

I'm installing LMDE on an Acer C720 chromebook.

When I load the live USB desktop and click the "Install Linux Mint" icon, the webcam light briefly comes on.

What's this about?

[SOLVED] Trouble trying to install VMWare View Client

I'm running LMDE and I need to install the VMWare View Client because I need to connect with the pcoip protocol. Note: the VMWare View Open Client that is in the repo does not support pcoip. It appears VMWare only releases an i386 .deb file through Ubuntu, here: http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/p...

Re: How to change application associated with opening folder

Actually, it was (mostly) fixed earlier, when I added the right inode/directory handler through xdg-mime default nemo.desktop inode/directory What happened is that I had 2 mime handlers defined for inode/directory. The first, faulty one, was overriden by the second correct one. I'm marking this solv...

Re: How to change application associated with opening folder

I'd call this curious

Code: Select all

inode/directory=soundconverter.desktop;totem.desktop;gnome-mplayer.desktop;vlc.desktop;
in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

The cache returns no results.

Re: How to change application associated with opening folder

Yes, Nemo opens when I use xdg-open . The gnome-control-center is not installed on my LMDE. Cinnamon has the 'Applications & Removable media' panel in the Settings, but that really only deals with (removable) media and the associated appplications. There is no option to configure other actions, like...

Thanks! I'm on the right way: Totem doesn't open now when I mount a volume, but neither does Nemo.

I'll have another look into xdg-mime.

[SOLVED] How to change application associated with opening..

For some reason my LMDE/Cinnamon install insists on opening folders with Videos (Totem) instead of the Nemo filemanager. When I mount a network drive or a USB drive, Videos will open that folder. Also, in Banshee, when I click 'Open containing folder' Videos will pop up, rather than Nemo. So, how do...

Re: Dual boot with 2 hard drives: some advice needed

Just a quick update to mark this topic solved... Installing on 2 separate HDD is really simple and works just fine. A few pointers: - it doesn't matter in which order you install Linux and Windows (XP in my case), as long as you physically disconnect the other HDD from the motherboard when installin...

Re: Serious downsides to using IDE over AHCI with SSD?

Well, I'm not using the SSD in Windows, so missing TRIM in Windows is not a big problem... I think.

The dual boot is actually spread out over 2 separate drives: a conventional, rotational drive for Windows and the SSD for Linux.

Serious downsides to using IDE over AHCI with SSD?

The situation : I need a dual boot install with Windows XP so the kids can get their GOG.com games fix. For the life of me, I cannot get XP to install with the HD in AHCI mode, despite slipstreamed drivers and what not. I'm going to install XP on a separate 80GB conventional harddisk and run LM13 o...

[SOLVED] Dual boot with 2 hard drives: some advice needed

I want to set up a dual boot system with a dedicated hard disk drive for each OS. I have a box with a 6Gbps SSD that is the primary drive in the BIOS and some old hard drives. Will this work? - first install WinXP to old 80GB drive - then install LM13 to shiny new SSD - install Grub to SSD (which is...

Re: Where to configure keyboard shortcuts in Cinnamon?

Open gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> global_keybindings --> run_command_1 Well, that works. When I use the gconf-editor and I set a keybinding for <Mod4>E and the command to run Nautilus, it works with both the left and the right Windows key + E. Actually, I first need to remove the shortcut...

Re: Where to configure keyboard shortcuts in Cinnamon?

Okay, this is just plain crazy... In Cinnamon, I use the Menu, go to Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Custom Shortcuts. I add a shortcut, give it a name and a command to run. Then I use the key capture function to grab the key combination. I hit the left Windows key and "e". This registers as "M...

Re: Where to configure keyboard shortcuts in Cinnamon?

Yep, I use the capture function.

When I used this on LM9 with the same keyboard, it also said I was using the Mod4+E key combo. So no surprise there.

The surprise is that the shortcut doesn't seem to work at all. Never had that problem with Linux Mint 9.
