USB drive will not mount

I am helping out a friend who has Mint 11 installed onto a USB drive. When booted, it will not auto mount another USB drive, although Disk Utility recognizes the drive. I tried to manual mount using Disk Utility and got the following error. Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper faile...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

I feel the sheer number of different distros is also off putting for people wanting to try out Linux and the different desktops. I know exactly what you mean. With thousands of different choices, it can be very confusing for a curious Windows user to even know where to start as far as choosing a Li...

Most of us distro hop now and then. I am currently on Fedora and I may have to take Fusion for a spin soon.

Re: Shortcut ctrl+alt+numpad enable ??

Ctrl+Alt+(left or right arrow keys) works for me in Mint 11 with compiz enabled. I would think it would work in Mint 10 also.

Re: read/write permissions

What problems are you having exactly? Are you having issues accessing system files? Are you not able to access your files? Are others not able to access your files? There is a lot of detail that you left out of your post.

Re: trojans detected

I wonder when MS will try saying "Warning! The Linux virus has been detected on your computer! Would you like Windows to try to remove it?" That will not happen any time soon since it would require that Windows detect and acknowledge the presence of Linux. I think Microsoft would rather deny Linux'...

Re: Mint 9 Won't Boot Using ISO CD or USB Flash Drive

I'm not sure how to look up RAM using Ubuntu.
You can check your memory and all of your hardware in Mint or Ubuntu using this command.

Code: Select all

sudo lshw |less
Look over the list that is displayed and if you do not see your memory, press the enter button until you see it.

Re: my screen size is slightly off...

As for your second question, I agree with JimmyMutant. My cursor acts exactly like yours and I am on Fedora at the moment. For your first question, panels are generally much wider than a millimeter. Even on my netbook, it is still about 8mm or so. Maybe the problem is not with your display position....

Re: Why releases have women names?

How many guys would be attracted to the distro if the names were Adam, Bill, Clint, Dan, Ed, etc?

Well OK, maybe a few, but not the majority of us.

I like the sexy female names. What's going to happen when we run out of letters of the alphabet?

Re: need help with installing wireless LAN card

We need to figure out where the driver was extracted to.

Try

Code: Select all

locate e100-3.5.17
See if you can figure out the full path, then run

Code: Select all

sudo insmod -f [fullpath]
I have to leave for about an hour, but I will check back when I can.

Re: need help with installing wireless LAN card

Try
tar xvf /home/alex/.cache/.fr-XrBQwM/e100-3.5.17.tar
Then
sudo -f insmod /home/alex/.cache/.fr-XrBQwM/e100-3.5.17
Then use ethtool to see if the driver has changed. Let me know if the wireless adapter is still not working.
