System Freezes
Linux Mint had been working fine for me for the past months. I love it. But these past 2 days, the system has been freezing after a few hours of use. I do not know what is going on. I have been forced to remove the power source from the laptop to be able to shut it down. This has caused something to...

I had a similar problem, but not with Mint.
You could try to start the distribution in its "safe mode", then configure your wireless correctly, then restart?

Re: MintBackports (Up to date software for LinuxMint)
That sounds a bit complicated, and bad for the web server hosting the script, because he would have to keep the compiled package in his server until you download it. I think what would be MOST convinient is a desktop application that takes source and compiles it into a package. Maybe thats more viab...

Re: Software Portal Suggestion
I like your idea of having community .mint files. It sounds great. They could also maybe provide a tutorial for users to make their own .mint files. By the way, im no expert at packaging, but .debs are just packages. .debs are not necesarily linked to repositories, but repositories DO link to .debs....

Software Portal Suggestion
I like the idea of the Software Portal, but it lacks a few things... It installs pretty well, but lacks information of the application Im installing. It gives a small description, but usually does not even link to the homepage of the software so I can check it out... If I am unfamiliar with it, I us...

FSCK Disk Checking...
Every once in a while, when I boot my box, it says that the root partition has been mounted 21 times, and has not been checked. That the check must be forced. It takes a long time to check the disk, then everything boots and works fine. Does this happen to everyone else? Is it necessary?

Re: Windows Button = Menu
I do not know if this is supposed to happen, but the menu just pops up wherever the mouse is. It would look waaay better if it would open up as if it was clicked. Anywayz, just a suggestion. But hey, if someone knows how to make this work, please let me know. I do not mind doing things myself. -Obli...

Re: Wifi Success! Bcm43xx
The reason your having problems with doing modprobe acer acpi is that it is probably not installed in your Daryna version. I had a similar problem to yours the first time I set up my box with linux, but not with Mint. Thing was, I had shutdown my wireless at boot once, then everytime I would log on ...

Re: Wifi Success! Bcm43xx
Same goes for you. Follow the steps of my previus post and tell me how it goes. The steps I posted are supposed to work with BCM4318 chipsets. Just because you have a broadcom does NOT mean the steps will work. I could, however, help you out. Let me know exactly what chipset you have and I'll try to...

Re: Wifi Success! Bcm43xx
Are you sure you have a BCM4318 chipset? What is the output after you type in a terminal: lspci | grep Broadcom\ Corporation It should display this(or similar): 05:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) If it doesnt, then you...

Re: Wifi Success! Bcm43xx
Grego, it is best to make sure everything is working fine, not just test your luck on something that worked by chance. Of course something is configured correctly, because it did work, But to make sure you have something you can depend on, please try the instructions step by step. A fresh Mint insta...

Re: Wifi Success! Bcm43xx
Have you considered doing a fresh install, and following the steps I mentioned above? If its not too much trouble, you should try that. Wireless works great for me. In the previus versions, were you using the native driver? I would recommend reinstalling Linux Mint, and following the steps I mentio...

Re: What editor do you use for web development?
I use "Carlos" :) Ok, seriously.. I used NVU until I realized the kind of mess it was creating and I now use nano, gedit or other text editors. Clem I saw the mess Clem was talking about. Found myself going back to Bluefish Editor. Eventually I'll hit eMacs, but for now... Bluefish will h...

Re: Wifi Success! Bcm43xx
Oblivion..... What version are you using? The reason I ask is that I had wireless working very nicely under the previous versions, even had WPA2 encryption going but since I've installed Daryna, wireless no longer works for me even tho it gives WPA2 encryption as an option. I have installed the win...
