Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: UP4 / 201208

multiarch afaik will only be default in debian with the upcoming debian 7. so eventually not even the next respins (if they come out fairly quick) will have multiarch enabled by default. Schoelje here and me here >> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=190&t=111026 have been trying multi...

Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: UP4 / 201208

I've been experimenting with multiarch and left it very disappointed. Also, it doesn't seem to be a Mint policy as LMDE isn't offering it either and I do not wish to stray to much from the Mint path. Just make sure you mention this in release notes or such, as packages like skype and wine are movin...

Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: UP4 / 201208

Ah one more issue that needs correcting! The up4 x64 ISO doesn't have multiarch enabled. As a result, programs which rely on i386 binaries such as skype and wine cannot be installed until this is fixed. (A placeholder program for wine is installed instead which explains the process of activating mul...

Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: UP4 / 201208

Going to go test the 32 bit iso on another machine of mine to see if I can replicate the issue. There may be a problem with the current UP4 isos /etc/default/grub configurations as I just noted that they have the failsafes enabled such as fixed resolution 800x600, whereas the Linux Mint 13 KDE iso d...

Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: UP4 / 201208

@Insane1 If I understand correctly: you used DDM on a machine that has Nvidia drivers installed by sgfxi? DDM cannot detect other drivers then the ones available in the repositories (yet) so using DDM when you have Nvidia drivers installed through sgfxi is quite risky (as you found out). Please, ad...

Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: UP4 / 201208

About to start experimenting with the release, (Up4. Gonna see how the update to 5 goes). In either case, I ran into a strange issue. When I installed the system, the default boot mysteriously was configured identical to the safeboot option. As a result, the resolution was incredibly small, there we...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Using cinnamon here. Gnome 3, honestly. isn't that bad of an idea when executed this way (I'll admit the whole tablet interface fad, though, is a horrible idea. Yes there are more tabs out there...however, I very much doubt schools are going to abruptly change all their shiny new desktops to tablets...

Re: Unable to Install KDE on LMDE

I had the problem. I debugged it by going lower and lower until I found the dependency issue. kde-workspace-bin doesn't like the mate notification daemon. You need to uninstall it before KDE-full will install. Not quite sure what about it causes an issue, but as the poster above states, that's the p...

Re: file system

Does not work. Done the 4 steps, but again the installer hangs in the formating step (even if the file system has already been formated by gparted!). When assigning the root partition, the installer automatically put ext4 file system. Quite strange...it may actually be a bug in the installer...well...

Re: installing hardware accelerator

anyone out there ??? You may want to provide more information. Hardware specs such as CPU, Graphics card, sound card, and other info would be recommended. It also helps if we know exactly WHAT type of hardware acceleration you are going for. I'm going to assume you mean graphically, but it's possib...

Re: file system

Hello everyone! I've just installed LMDE. My problem was to choose the file system. On Gparted only ext2, 3, and 4 type (+two or three others), were active but no reiserfs (3 or 4). Tried to install under livecd reiserfsprogs in order to be able to set up this kind of file system (actually reiser3)...

Re: Update running like a dog with no legs

OK, so i'm in Japan, and for most of my updates it connects to the local server and is fine. However, some of the updates are gathered from http://archive.ubuntu.com and it crawls along like a sloth. Current update speed says "Download rate: 1585 B/s - 2h27min26s remaining." This is for a...

Re: deal breaker- no brother mfc-7420 drivers

Thanks, I'll try it ... You're welcome. Here's hoping that you get your printer working with those deb files. I know that Debian Testing for me, last I used it, actually had -better- printer support for at least my HP printers than the latest Ubuntu LTS as long as the right files are installed stra...

Re: Is there a 64bit LXDE version?

Thanks Zoof. I went ahead and used the standard mint64 for now. Reason being I have 6 Gb of ram on my machine. Good to know it might be available in the future if enough people make the switch to 64 bit. But here is my question (i know it doesnt' have to do so much with RAM but still) - why would y...

Re: capture keeps going down to 0

I'm trying to use skype and can't get the microphone working. In the (menu -> sound & video ->) sound mixer (GNOME ALSA Mixer) I noted the microphone and capture is set at 0. So I bumped them up to the maximum (adjusted internal microphone & capture to the maximum) and check "Rec."...

Hello, I'm trying to change from vanilla Mint to a hybrid based on LXDE. However, I cannot seem to find the repository information anywhere.
