Install USB wifi dongle

I used to run Lubuntu and I bought a cheap wifi dongle from Ebay and it installed by itself and worked fine. I recently switched to Mint 19 and bought a dual band dongle from Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B078MMBBY4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and plugged it in and no...

Re: Install linux Mint Alongside Xp vs. Manual Partitioning?

Sorry, but drag what slider? I don't see any choice to do that on the installation?

Re: Install linux Mint Alongside Xp vs. Manual Partitioning?

I can't find the XP disks to do a re-install.

Does that mean that the XP is taking up the whole drive and there is no room to install Mint LXD?

Re: Install linux Mint Alongside Xp vs. Manual Partitioning?

I tried to install Mint 12 LXDE along side XP and I can't see any auto install options as per the other posts and manual. The only choices I get are "erase the entire disk and install Mint" and "Something else" (manual partition).

Am I missing something?

Re: Upgrading to Mint 10

When I upgraded to Mint 10 I chose the advanced mode to specify the partitions. I made sure that the partitions were all there and made sure that the only partition that was going to be reformatted was /. Make sure that you use the same username as before when you install. So, I'm assuming that eve...

Re: Upgrading to Mint 10

Hi! Knowing that newcomers to Linux have problems, I nevertheless prefer a custom layout, because I don't trust any automatism; it is a fact that almost all problems with partitions or Grub were generated using "alongside" or another automatism. Preparing partitions before installing Linux is the b...

Re: Upgrading to Mint 10

Hi! Fine! I recommend a new installation; installing the new Mint into sda5 ("/"), mounting sda6 as "/home", swap (don't care) is no problem in Julia. I would download Julia DVD, check md5sum and burn an image (low speed) on DVD or create an USB live - depends on your hardware and your working oper...

Upgrading to Mint 10

I installed Mint 9 a few months back in a dual boot configuration with XP on my laptop . I like Mint very much, but I'm getting “low graphics mode” errors after suspend and would like to upgrade to Mint 10 to see if that will fix my problem and allow me to dump Windows for good. Now, when I installe...

Re: Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode

I have a suggestion for you to try, not sure if this will work on a laptop or not. Open your screen saver preferences, Menu>Preferences>Screen Saver Un-check the button that says, "Activate screensaver when computer is idle" Then click on the "Power Management" button Set the display option to Neve...

Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode

I'm new to Linux and installed Mint 9 in a dual boot configuration with Windows XP on my Toshiba M50 with 1 gig of ram and an Intel GMA 900. Everything seems to work fine until I close the cover then open up the lid (from suspend). Usually, within about 5 minutes or so, I get "Ubuntu is running in l...
