Re: Mint Xfce and systemd [Solved]

Hello xenopeek.

Thank you very much for your excellent reply. I now have a much clearer knowledge of both the present situation and what will happen in the future.

I didn't know that Mint already uses some systemd components. Learn something new every day!

Thanks again.

Mint Xfce and systemd [Solved]

This is purely for my information. I don't want to start a flame-war! I know that it has been announced that at sometime in the future, Mint KDE and Mint Mate will be using systemd. Is there any news if Mint XFCE will be using it too, or is it too early for a decision? Just wondered. Many thanks. Ke...

Re: Problems with Mint!

@TBABill Many thanks for your reply. I've been doing more testing, running the latest live DVDs of several distros. That's why there has been this delay in answering you. Here are results: The following load and run normally, with no sign of crashing. PCLinuxOS 32, PCLinuxOS 64, PCLinuxOS Minime, Ma...

Re: Problems with Mint!

hal8000.

I've been trying again to get Mate, Cinnemon, KDE, and XFCE to work. No success.

Not had problems with any earlier versions of Mint.

So I have abandoned them all and will quietly stay with my Mate13 until the next LTS.

Cheers

Problems with Mint!

I hope that this is the correct section to post this. I run Mint13 Mate as my main distro. No problems whatever and am delighted with it. Over the past days, I have been trying the live DVD's of Mint15. Disaster. :( Mint15 Mate: OK if the first thing I do is to load the Nvidia304 driver. If I try to...

Install the 32-bit or 64-bit versions?

For many months, I have been running Mint13 Mate inside Windows using Mint4Win and have decided that it is time to wipe the Linux distro I have on my external hard drive and replace it with Mate! I have 3GB of memory, of which several MB are used by the on-board video chip, and a Tri-AMD 800MHz proc...

Re: Texlive

Thank you both for your replies. I often use locate and whereis. Whereis just returns a blank. Nothing which locate shows is of any help (although there are a good number of texlive files listed). It's not in filesystem/usr/bin nor /usr/share. I have reinstalled it but get the same results. I have i...

Re: Texlive

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, neither suggestion work.

I navigated to file system/bin, but there is no texlive file there. Alt>F2 gives ' couldn't open location'.

As a test, I've just downloaded another program, and that appears in the menu and runs!

Many thanks.

Texlive [Solved]

Wanting to 'have a go' with the Tex typesetting package for the first time, as it seems to be the Ubuntu favourite for Tex. So I have downloaded and installed Texlive using the metapackge. But I can't find a way to run it! Texlive doesn't appear in the menu anywhere and the terminal can't run it. Pl...

Re: Change time in Mint13 XFCE

Many thanks for your reply.

Another thread has appeared, with the same problem.

I used the command suggested in that thread:

sudo date -s 14:07 (but, of course, I substituted the current time for 14:07).

Logged out and back in, and the time is now correct.

Change time in Mint13 XFCE [Solved]

I'm trying the live CD of Mint13 XFCE. The 'time' in the panel is UTC and I want to change it to 'local time' (actually, UTC+1), but can't find a way of doing it. XUbuntu has Applications->System->Time + Date to change it, but this appears to be missing in Mint. How do I change it, please? Many than...

Wrong Mint13 screen resolution with Mint4Win

I have installed Mint13 Mate inside Windows7, using Mint4Win. When it boots, there is a message: 'Monitor out of range, reset to 1600x900 @ 60HZ'. (This is the correct setting for the monitor). Booting stops for about 30 seconds, showing this message, then continues satisfactorily. Checking the moni...

Re: Mint 12 desktops don't work

Hello both.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate your help.

I read the Mint12 release notes when it came out in November. But I only downloaded it yesterday and I had forgotten about the liveDVD note.

I'll have to install it to try it out.

Cheers.

Re: Mint 12 desktops don't work

Hello Vincent.

I was running Mint 12 from the live DVD, as I wanted to give it a very good test before deciding whether or not to install it.

Sorry I didn't make this clear.

Cheers.

Mint 12 desktops don't work [Solved]

I downloaded the live DVD of Mint 12 earlier today, and ran it. Up came a new desktop which, I think, was Gnome3. But I may be completely wrong. So, having tried it for a time, I logged out, selected Mate by clicking in the icon top right, and logged back in. Up came the same desktop as before. So, ...

Re: What is the most userfriendly Linux distro ?

I've done quite a lot of trying various installations, and in my opinion:

1) Linux Mint9 XFCE
2) Linux Mint9 Gnome (Mint10 and 11 are out because they are not LTS.)
3) Mepis
4) PCLinuxOS KDE
5) Mageia

Cheers.
