Re: Is Unity a better alternative to the GNOME Shell?
Maybe off topic, but is Unity a fork or gnome, or is it just built on top of gnome. If it's the latter, and mint is going Gnome 3 without gnome shell, users should be able to add the unity panel or the gnome shell as per their wish right? Unity is a shell (as is Gnome shell) and is built on top of ...

Re: Is Unity a better alternative to the GNOME Shell?
Netbook? Smartphone? Why not, if you want, although I'm not absolutely fan of the smartphone interface even if I do have an android device... But I don't want this crap on my desktop! And unfortunately, I begin to have some problem to know what I can use as GNOME 3, Unity, KDE 4... are (almost) out...

Re: Is Unity a better alternative to the GNOME Shell?
@linuxviolin: May I ask why you've chosen that specific topic description? From what I've read, it's not about the question of the better alternative. You're just complaining about everything (except Gnome 2). You're generalizing personal problems or bugs you've encountered, and so far I agree with ...

Re: Is Unity a better alternative to the GNOME Shell?
I guess you should/could look at, and follow and read the link, here ... Ubuntu stands alone, even Fedora and openSUSE doesn't want Unity... at least for now. I know that. So Fedora and Suse don't want Unity, and Mint doesn't want neither Unity nor Gnome Shell. So what does it tell us about the &qu...

Re: Is Unity a better alternative to the GNOME Shell?
I have the slightest feeling, that some of you have no idea about what Unity is, what's under it's surface and how it is still a work in progress (with huge steps forward at the moment). But whining about how bad the world has become and how evil Mark Shuttleworth is and how stupid the decisions are...

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE
No problems here... Typical "works for me, closed." Not a solution... just look at the posts every time a new release... problems with this thing ... It should go. If all the things that caused a lot of trouble (and bug reports), should go - where would we all be? Edit: And besides: "...

Re: I think I'm in love..
I would recommend a dual boot. Install Windows first, then Mint. So you can get the best of both worlds.

Julia is really impressing. Just replaced an old Ubuntu install with it on my desktop machine. And it's running on my Netbook since it's been released. I just love it!

Re: I am done with this linux thing
For the same reasons I gave up on Arch and all the other distros that need a lot of fiddling around with. Moved over to Ubuntu, then, after a long while, over to Mint. And I have no excuses to not getting things done. I'm mother of two childs (1,5 and 2,5 yrs old), but I'm enjoying the time after th...

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE
I really couldn't get along with KDE since version 4, but I might give it a try because I know Mint devs really care a lot about user experience. Take all the time you need, Boo.

Re: Why Should I Go Mint?
As said before: Mint is the most user-friendly distro I know (and I know a lot!). PLUS: If you like some stuff from Ubuntu, you can easily add anything you want, from Ubuntu themes to Ubuntu One stuff. The community is another great plus, if you ask me. I recommend to give it a try. You can run it f...

I'm not quite sure. Did you try to install 3 packages or just 2? And did you chose the packages compliant to you architechture?
