Re: spotlight like in mac os
While certainly not the same, there are apps like Synapse or Gnome Do that have similar capabilities from what Wikipedia tells me Spotlight does. There may be a better fitting alternative, though.

Re: linuxmint 14/Libreoffice -- can't
That's strange, my default for My Documents is home/####/Documents. Also, I was able to change it to something else with no problem.
Have you tried pressing the Default button and see if it goes to the Documents folder?
Also, when you change it to something else, do you pres OK at the end?

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage
I get this problem as well, but notice it happening mostly the first time I open the menu after turning on the computer or when opening the menu after a long time of not using it (2-3 hrs). It's been a turn off for me to use Cinnamon, even if I like most everything else about it. Could it be that it...

Re: Where does my login pic live? :)
If what you're looking for is your user picture, I believe there's a file called .face on your home folder. Since it starts with a period, it's a hidden file, so you may need to (in Nautilus) click on View -> Show Hidden Files or just press Ctrl + H.

Re: Arduino 1.0.1
I just went by the Arduino site and the release on their Downloads page is v1.01, which is the one you say is on Synaptic. But yeah, you could always go to Arduino's site and download it directly from there.

Re: Mint 13 Cinnamon -nautilus problem
Though it's not an ideal solution, I pinpointed this problem to having "Have the file manager handle the desktop" on. So, you could try going to Cinnamon Settings, click on Desktop and uncheck "Have the file manager handle the desktop". The bad part of doing this is that you will...

Re: Connecting Laptop to TV via HDMI
Have you tried opening the Displays menu? From there you can see if your computer is detecting the newly connected TV and the turn it on if it isn't.

Re: Nautilus "hangs" when launched
Aaaaand after fiddling a bit, discovered that the root of the problem is having the file manager handle the desktop instead of the shell. It's an option you can turn off using gnome-tweak-tool. However, this disallows the ability to have any shortcuts/icons on the desktop as far as I can tell. It mu...

Re: Nautilus "hangs" when launched
Thanks! It did help a bit, but the panel still shows Nautilus as "still loading". In any case, it's less frustrating now at least.
I'm gonna hold on declaring it solved, in case someone has a complete solution to the problem.

Nautilus "hangs" when launched [SOLVED]
Hey all! I am a current user of Linux Mint 13, running Gnome Shell. Ever since I installed Maya, Nautilus appears to hang for more than a couple of seconds (~10 secs). I say it appears to, because it's only the cursor showing that the program is still "thinking" and not ready, while for al...

Re: Unable to change theme on Gnome Shell
No, it really is Mint-z. It says so. Also, there's a Mint logo where the "infinity" logo used to be (Activities corner). It really might be just an update of the one used in Lisa.

Re: Unable to change theme on Gnome Shell
Ah! They must have changed the "Activities" icon and maybe messed with the colors a bit. Still, I like it enough to keep it for a while at least. I'm a compulsive theme changer, after all.

Darn, that was a fast reply! It worked like a charm, bimsebasse! Thank you!
Also, where did that Mint-Z theme come from? It sure as hell wasn't there in Lisa! I love it!

Unable to change theme on Gnome Shell
Hey all! I've been trying to run Gnome Shell on Maya, and while it works mostly flawlessly, I've encounter a few snags: I am not able to change themes for Gnome Shell. I tried at first installing the User Theme extension, but when I did, Advances Settings (gnome-tweak-tool) doesn't even want to load...

Re: What do you not like about Cinnamon?
I don't dislike CInnamon at all. However, if I had to single out one (or two) places where to me it falls behind Gnome Shell, it's in the integration of the messaging app into the notification bar, and the ability to view your calendar schedule from the desktop. Those two really put GS at the top fo...

The problem does reappear occassionally, though, which makes me sad and annoyed. Still, nothing that takes more than a few seconds to fix, really.

Re: Any interesting stuff in Linux's future?
Well, I read these news yesterday about Canonical bringing an Ubuntu desktop experience to Android through a docked phone interface. Makes me a bit excited, as I have used the Webtop environment for Motorola phones which left me a bit unsatisfied. Here's a link to the article I read. http://arstechn...

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
The gpointing-device-settings solution worked for me. However, the problem repeated itself today and when I opened the gpointing menu, the "Disable Touchpad" box was unchecked. Checking it and unckecking it solved the problem all right, but I lost all hope that this was a permanent solution.

Re: If you had ONE request for the Cinnamon devs what would
The integration with the messaging app calendar. Those two options made gnome shell the best experience I've had with the desktop since I tried Mint for the first time.
