Re: graphic configuration
It appears radeon is already there. Are you having trouble with the resolution or with the actual speed at which your PC is running?

Re: Re-installing but retaining /home and /etc
You can copy your /etc/apt/sources.list that shouldn't be a problem just make sure If you are using LMDE you do not add the Main Edition sources. transmission is found in your /home/yourname/.config so it is already in the home folder and is safe. hit ctrl+h in your home folder to look for some of y...

Re: Re-installing but retaining /home and /etc
what exactly are you trying to keep? I could suggest you copy and save your /etc. but I am not sure you could just paste it in the new system without error. you can run aptoncd to save some of your programs to cd or dvd. then just run it when you finish the new install

Re: graphic configuration
Level 3 updates are not usually bad for your system. Level 4 and 5 have a tendency to be updates to the kernel or other sensitive software/applications. I do dist-upgrades which include them all and I have not had any severe problems. As to your graphics card you can run sgfxi after install smxi fro...

Re: Re-installing but retaining /home and /etc
I don't know about keeping /etc but you will keep /home if you simply install the new distro on top of the old with out formatting. As far as I know only the
/home will remain the same.
/home will remain the same.

Re: Google Earth and Stellarium not working after april 12 u
That usually is caused by missing/broken dependencies. Since Mint has made a good googleearth package that installs all the needed dependencies, you may want to try reinstalling it with Synaptic Package Manager. It's shown as googleearth, not googleearth-package. Also make sure you have GLX running...

Re: Google Earth and Stellarium not working after april 12 u
I run it with an Nvidia driver no problems. My Google Earth has the same build date as your so I think we have the same version. I don't think it is the kernel. As to getting your card to work have you tried sgfxi from smxi.org? http://smxi.org/docs/sgfxi-manual.htm

Re: locked out of some topics
At the top of the Forums their are three listed: Ethernet, Wifi, and Other. Have you clicked any of those? I can not post unless I go that one more step. Easy to miss.

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
@FranzB This website may help. http://distrowatch.com/ It is a fairly concise encyclopedia of all the current changes to the various distros but offers a little insight into each as well. It gives links to their pages so that you may read their mission if you so chose. If more new comers new of this...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
Linux exists for diversity. it is an opportunity for programmers to set out and make their own customized OS and let other tinker with it and improve upon it. We will see more distros rise and fall. If people leave Linux it is because ultimately they do not want it. You know who else thought diversi...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
Just a question. When I go to "Linux for newbies" the thread is not listed any longer. At least I cannot see it. I can get in by gooooogling for "Why do new people ....etc.". Yeah yeah.... leave it to Mr.G. They must spy out the forum without interruption. Last entry Google give...
