Do it this way instead: gksu gedit /etc/rc.local Immediately below #! /bin/sh -e, add: modprobe -r psmouse Your touchpad will be disabled at reboot, and you won't need to use your password. If you want to re-enable the touchpad for a session, open up a terminal and enter: sudo modprobe psmouse

In summary, the fsck freezes/hangs. This bug is common to all MINT9 (xfce, lxde, gnome). I wonder why no one seemed to notice it. I just edit fstab to stop the disk check.
