Re: Laptop Recommendations
I have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 1525 that runs triple boot, Mac 10.6.6 Snow Leopard, Linux Mint 9 and Win XP SP3. The same laptop also has a spare HDD that I can swap in to run test distros and to this day I have found NO Linux OSs that my unit won't run well or fast!

Re: Windows 7 Surpasses XP In Usage
The age of the purchaser is also a factor. I go as far back as Window 3.1, but young buyers / user have only been on the planet long enough to become "aware" of the personal computer with current operating systems. So, the first impression for "kids" was Vista, then 7. Naturally...

Re: Dual Boot
I'm not sure about a dual boot getting boring after a while ... all I can give is my own personal experience . I run a triple boot on my Dell Inspiron 1525 ; Windoze 7, Linux Mint 9 AND Macintosh (yes it is a hack) I use which ever OS is required at the time for the task at hand be it something as d...

Re: ReactOS
Had some problems with a firewire driver (kept freezing up) THAT is what will interest windoze users for sure all that is needed now is the BSOD to complete the effect

Re: Where to buy a laptop without Windows
I purchased an eMachines at Walmart just before the win7 came out and within a few days I wiped the HDD and replaced it with Linux Mint, to this day my wife enjoys this unit while I went on to a Dell Inspiron 1525 and by using 3 separate hard drives I run a Hackintosh, Windoze 7, Linux Mint 9, and #...

Re: Is Ubuntu Driving Users Away?
Personally I don't care much for unity so I think my comps will probably stick with Mint, openSuse, #!, and my hack. just find them more appealing IMHO.

Re: ReactOS
I have actually installed this on an old box that ran win 2000 and found that I was waiting for the BSOD so I pulled the HDD and put one in containing win 98    Still got it loaded (the beauty of having a plethora of old computers kicking around) and intend to keep it that way.

My wife and I differ in opinions as to which dock is better, after all I set her up with Docky and I have Cairo Dock which suits us to our personal preferences (a happy home is a harmonious home)

Re: How did you "learn" Linux?
The ideal way to learn Linux is to bork your windoze system and FORCE yourself into using nothing but Linux which is exactly how I learned it :D Actually the hard drive failed in a nearly new laptop just after the warranty expired and be damned if I was going to pay for a new OS :!: After a few fail...

Just remember windoze is for people that are unable to or won't learn Linux and leave it at that

Re: Distros of interest and why.
I don't have a favourite distro but I do run #! openbox on one comp,Ubuntu Satanic on another, along with a Hackintosh, in other words ANYTHING goes in this home EXCEPT windoze although that may change with the addition of an antiquated laptop that is somewhere lurking in my garage. I just love to di...

Personally I don't know what the big deal is with people wanting to disable a safety feature but to each their own I guess. My computer is only used by me and my wife but we never even considered removing the password .

Re: Suggested partition size for /boot, / and /home
What I run on my wife's laptop (Isadora) is 100mb/boot, 7GB / , 256mb swap running 3GB RAM,and the rest as home(not dual boot) but if it were, I'd save about 40GB for windoze
