The 32-bit version of chrome is discontinued by Google. Install the 64-bit version instead or use 32-bit chromium instead.

Re: Canon PIXMA MG5422

It is a firewall.
I thought it might block the printer somehow. You can check if it is enabled by putting this in the terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo ufw status

If it is enabled you could try disable it by putting this in terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo ufw disable

and try if the printer works.

Re: Mint 15 Olivia upates pkgs etc

Mint 15 is beyond its end of support life... in Linux terms, it is called obsolete! Support ended in January 2014. The current versions of Mint can be found here >>> http://www.linuxmint.com/download_all.php Note that Mint 16 goes obsolete in a few weeks... then the only currently supported version...

Re: Allow Administrator account Read Write access to "/" Fol

Your system is probably broken. You should not fiddle with access to /. All files in / is owned by root and that is how it is supposed to be. Use sudo if you want to write to systemfiles.

Re: why are there so many editions?

does not answer the question though. Why can't there just be one distro focused on and people just install whatever they want on top of it? That is more of what I think is the idea being asked here. I'd love to know the answer myself. If that is what you want then you can install arch or a minimal ...

Re: What is root control?

When I enter my password for a terminal search, is that actually the "root" password? In other words, I don't understand what is meant by "root". I'm using Mint13 Mate. Root is the user on your system that has total control. By using "sudo" command you are temporarily ...

Re: Add XFCE after installing cinnamon

install mint-meta-xfce maybe? You might have to change themes, icons and fonts after installing the metapackage.

The dock is there by default in a vanilla XFCE setup. Just remove it if you dont want it.
