I think Recoll builds an index. Right?
Others like Beagle as well?

Re: File Content Search and Indexing?
I see. Just to be sure I understand allow me to say what I got in my own words: - every single time I run a search nemo "converts" every pdf file to searchable text then search this extracted text for the word I'm looking for. If I got it correct, I don't understand why not index the old w...

Still don’t understand the search with no indexing. Still trying to learn!

Re: File Content Search and Indexing?
Sorry, excuse me for my ignorance. I've been away from linux for long time. " There is NO indexing " how is that? how search inside the file is done? Seems a lot has changed in the 10 years I've been away! https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=353724 Not too much fi...

Re: I’m limotux, I’m back again after 10 years!
Hi limotux , welcome back :) you will certainly notice the changes that we've made over the last Ten Years. Sure! Impressive as usual! As a matter of principal I love of course the idea of “freedom” and “community” P.S: I don’t know why I feel the forum is not that “active” or “busy” as before! May...

Re: File Content Search and Indexing?
The default is to search for text strings or by using regular expressions; by default recursively. Indexing gains its speed at the expense of many read/writes to disk which is great if you do lots of searching by key word. Welcome back axisofevil It’s been 2 days and about 10 pdf files. Still it se...

Re: File Content Search and Indexing?
I'll appreciate any help. I left my laptop overnight. I have only like 10 pdf files. Nemo search for a word inside files brings the results after long time as if it is not indexed. As I mentioned I have double checked the helper files are there. I have Recoll installed and it brings results instant...

I’m limotux, I’m back again after 10 years!
Hi all, I’m finally back to Linux after about 10 years away! I started Linux since 2000, and been happily living with it for about 12 years till about 2012. Then due to UEFI things and being so busy I didn’t have time to struggle with installing and finding workarounds! Finally, I’m having some free...

Re: File Content Search and Indexing?
Great update
I just installed and updated
Nemo seems great in searching for a word in a pdf file.
I just noticed it is a bit slow, maybe needs time for indexing.
I'll leave it for a while and report back.
Edit: I double checked all helpers you mentioned, I have the same.

Re: File Content Search and Indexing?
Thanks pal
I know it mentions.
I just thought it is added already to nemo no matter which distro or version.
Thanks.
Just to report back
I tried Nautilus, and it does the job.
Thank you.

File Content Search and Indexing?
Hi guys, I'm finally back after almost 8 years away. I hope I'm welcome. Just installed, configured LMDE (made a separate partition for data, just in case) I hope you can guide me more about file content indexing and search. I prefer to search through file manager rather than install a special softw...

Re: chattr error - changing attributes of a certain folder
Wondering if Windows can by any chance read ext4 (as linux could read NTFS using ntfs-3g), ie. by installing something on Windows to read ext4. Easeus Partition Master has ability to read linux-files. Thanks, I'm checking it now. Edit: seems a powerful Windows app... like gparted plus some more fea...

Re: chattr error - changing attributes of a certain folder
thanks a lot viking777, It seems it can't do NTFS unfortunately. I just created an ext4 partition on my external had disk and it is working fine. The only problem now is that I'm duplicating files on both partitions, but I have to keep them on NTFS as I might probably need to use them on a Windows s...

chattr error - changing attributes of a certain folder
Hi guys, I thought of changing attributes of a certain folder and all sub-folders and files to prevent accidentally deleting them while I can still access and add files to the folders. I tried: chattr -R +a foldername on the local hard disk and it worked like a charm. Then I tried to apply the same ...
