Re: Strange transparncy I cannot fix

I'm using 17.3 Rosa, Mate addition. My FF version is 48. I not only changed my FF theme but I also started a new instance of FF, with my ~/.mozilla directory renamed. So FF started anew. I had the same transparency problem. As a matter of fact, I've been working on this problem for about 2 days now,...

Strange transparncy I cannot fix

I have this strange transparency for my context menu/bubble for Firefox. Actually, the transparency is in a lot different, random places, but not everywhere. When I hover my mouse over a tab it will show you the entire tab name, but since I cannot see the contextual bubble because it's too transpare...

paranoia alert: dropbox with normal user rw

I might be a little paranoid but why does dropbox have read/write for normal user? I did a security audit on my system (just a script) and it got me on a wild goose chase for a bit. Then I read about the cross-platform backdoor. Just wondering if anyone knows why these have normal user rw privilege....

Re: 17.3, turning off inhibition

Actually, Radish, inhibition is on automatically. From "What's New" @ https://linuxmint.com/rel_rosa_mate_whatsnew.php MATE is now using the same "presence" interface as GNOME and Cinnamon. This means it now supports a very wide range of applications. You no longer need to move your mouse or to use ...

17.3, turning off inhibition

On the new linuxmint 17.3, inhibition of sleep is automatic when playing videos. I think all videos, but am not sure. I know at least on VLC it's that way. Is there a way to turn that function off? On my laptop, sometimes I *do not* need or want that function. I don't mind clicking the inhibition ap...

Re: root/.hplip/hplip-3.15.2-plugin.run file does not match

I'm having the same problem here. Even when I d/l the file and search for it manually for some reason HPLIP is removing it and claiming it can't be found. When I run the bash script manually it asks if I have HPLIP installed. It's weird. I'll keep searching. My HPLIP version is 3.15.2. Maybe that's ...

Using gnome-disk to create & restore any disk image

From a HD with bad sectors I used gnome disk to restore a Windows 7 machine. This should work for any distro and any OS. I was curious if it would work for Windows, but it did. I hope this how-to alleviates some of your anxiety using this tool. Run a liveCD, preferably the latest Linuxmint. Any one ...

Re: Chromium Browser Hijacker

Which third-party extensions have you installed in Chromium? Off topic: isn't Chromium sandboxed by default? That's what is strange. I have only 3 extensions and none were enabled. They might have come as default for the browser, for all I can remember. I only use Chromium for one thing and usually...

Chromium Browser Hijacker

I was surprised to find on my Linuxmint 17.1 (Rebecca) that I had a browser hijacker in Chromium. It was obvious that I had it because nearly every link I touched opened a new tab to an ad. The only way to get rid of it, me thinks, is to reset Chromium to its original settings.

The Craziness of the 'Preferred Applications' mess

So I spent 3 hours or more and it's still not entirely solved. For a work around please read on. (I figure I can't be the only one with the problem) I'd like to make Opera my preferred application. The GUI did not work. I could pick Opera but it was obvious that it wasn't working right because the r...

Re: Maya Xcfe , why mandatory encryption of home directory ?

I knew I made a mistake in not mentioning my version. I am using Maya Mate. I think it has to do with my old linux OS I have. If I delete all of my old directories (everything), it will install correctly. I will try this when I fee like messing with it. I'm just perplexed at how such a simple option...

Re: Maya Xcfe , why mandatory encryption of home directory ?

If it makes you feel any better I am having the same problems as you. Although, I have no solution unfortunately. I could have sworn this happened once before but the solution evades my senses and memory.

I am using a checked and md5'd version of Linux Mint 13 32bit.

Re: where are the Flash files ?

None of these ways actually work for some video. The flash files are not in the /tmp directory, VideoDownloadHelper doesn't work all the time and some aren't located anywhere else on the hard drive. There is some type of new scheme whereby parts of the video is temporarily cached and then instantane...

Re: On Julia install ubiquity chooses encrypted partition.

Are you using a previously encrypted /home as your new /home when you get this "bug"? If so that may be why. I don't think that the installer can change a existing encrypted /home to an unencrypted /home (without formatting the partition of course) From a liveCD I just checked to make absolutely su...

Re: On Julia install ubiquity chooses encrypted partition.

I've figured this out somewhat with a workaround but I still don't know why this is happening. When I configure my system manually with separate partitions for / and /home (sda2) it wants to only allow me to encrypt my home directory. But that only happens on my large home partition which is over 90...

Re: On Julia install ubiquity chooses encrypted partition.

You have to enter your info into the text fields before you can choose from the whited out options. I've put my information in two or three times and the options still stay whited out. The first time I didn't know what was going on. Then I did it a second time and the same thing. I even reburned my...

On Julia install ubiquity chooses encrypted partition.

I tried installing Linux Mint 10, Julia, [ linuxmint-10-gnome-dvd-amd64.iso with md5sum of: f77d65b69395807c64d7e4f1b3dad4c7 ] on a separate partition and it wouldn't let me choose to have an encrypted home drive or not. All the options were whited out with no way to click them. I spoke to one perso...
