Re: Linux Replacement for MusicBee?

Another vote here for audacious which with its relatively minimal GUI, (I use the default GUI, not the winamp version) does exactly what I need, ie, it plays music directly or in playlist form extremely well and does not get in the way with lots of bells and whistles that I'll never use.

See if this thread in ubuntuforums is of any help; it gives lots of detail about how to do this properly.

Re: .deb Files Will Not Install

If the package installer that you are asking about in this thread is gdebi, you may need to open gdebi first then use the File ->Open menu to open the package and install it that way. That works for me and is the only way I can get gdebi working as it used to, hence my use of the sudo apt install /p...

Re: .deb Files Will Not Install

The sudo dpkg -i command suggested by Flemur will work if there are no missing dependencies, but dpkg does not handle dependencies at all, so will always fail if there are any dependencies missing from your system. However, if you use sudo apt install /path/to/package.deb will handle all dependencie...

Re: Firefox upgrade?

Which version of Mint are you using?

All supported versions of Mint are now using FF version 65.01 from the Ubuntu repositories, so I wonder if you are currently using an old unsupported version of Mint.

Re: mp4 file opening problems

I assume this happens when you try to play the mp4 without saving it, ie, direct from the email with a right click?
What if you save the mp4 to disk and play it; does it then play as you expect?

Re: Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

On my desktop machine using Xubuntu 18.04 which I also use as a Plexmediaserver I have in my panel one of the applets that with a right click offers me a Presentation Mode tick-box. I can not get to that machine at present so I'm not completely certain what applet provides this option. If I enable t...

Re: First post - Warranty voided if Mint installed on new laptop?

Another possible answer is to purchase a computer from one of the several companies that will provide one with no installed OS. There are several of those in the UK and I imagine they also exist elsewhere if you search. That way they can not squirm out of any hardware fault that existed at purchase ...

Re: Record Vinyl

I have a suspicion that you will have to connect the turntable to an amplifier first then use the amp output as "line in" input to your laptop, but this is not something I've tried. I am in the lucky position of having bought (many years ago) an audio CD recorder which I use with turntable and amp t...

Re: Can't mount old HD from Windows

Can you tell us whether or not Windows really was fully shutdown when you removed that hard drive and that Windows fast-start was disabled. By default Windows 10 will use a hibernation state rather than a full shutdown meaning that any NTFS drives mounted in Windows will still appear to be in use in...

Re: Foss financial/budgeting software recommendations?

Like tenfoot I use, and have done so for many years now, KMyMoney, in spite of it needing many qt/kde lib packages etc. It is most useful for personal finances rather then full business accounting, though I believe it can be used for that if needed, which I never did. It looks much like Quicken did ...

Re: Script to bulk remove spaces from song titles?

The %F at the end of the command I showed you is needed only because I was telling you how to use a thunar custom-action, so it allows you to select multiple files and run the command on all of them simultaneously. If using the command in terminal rather than a custom-action you can omit the %F at t...

Re: Script to bulk remove spaces from song titles?

I see you are using thunar from xfce4 so you can easily do this with a custom action from the Edit menu. Go to Configure Custom Acions, hit the add (+) button and add a new script named and described as you like, and using rename 's/\ /_/g' %F in the command box. Select all six items in the Appearan...

Re: View Installed Repositories?

If Mint still includes synaptic in a default install you can also see your repos by clicking on Origin in the bottom of left hand panel and also by using the Settings -> Repositories menu entry and then using the first two tabs, assuming the synaptic GUI used is the same as Ubuntu's.

Re: LMDE3 change window manager

I have removed cinnamon and added xfce4 to my LMDE3 installation, quite easy to do using synaptic package manager. Using Xfce4 as the DE with xfwm as window-manager gives you an option of holding the left Alt key and scrolling with mouse or touchpad to zoom in/out. I have no idea if you could add xf...

Re: LMDE 3 is too slow and heavy?

I have tried LMDE3 in a virtual install only as shown in the thread I created at https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=251&t=285255. As I said in that, I found LMDE3 using Xfce in place of cinnamon absolutely fantastic; fast and stable, with few if any problems at all, and one poster on that ...

Thanks to you both for your comments, particularly LuvNix, with whom, incidentally, I totally agree. I was not intending to demand that an Xfce version of LMDE be made available but simply asking if it was ever likely. I am also aware that cinnamon, being a Mint development (as far as I'm aware?) wo...

LMDE3 with Xfce

I have just installed LMDE3 as a virtual install in VBox 6.0 and not surprisingly the default cinnamon DE runs a bit too slowly and has several graphics glitches due probably to being a virtual install. However, in spite of thos difficulties with cinnamon I do find this new (to me) OS superb, and fa...

Lat's also see the output of

Code: Select all

cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/additional-repositories.list
which I suspect somewhere in the text has the word "sudo" causing your problem.

Re: Destop icons auto-arrange after restart (Resolved)

I used to have the same problem in Xubuntu 14.04 and earlier. I don't know where the configuration for cinnamon is saved but look for a config file for the desktop and see if there's a file which saves the icon positions in the same way that Xfce4 has in ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons.screen0-1904x10...
