Re: TUTORIAL: How to update your GPS maps using a Win10 guest in VirtualBox
Interestingly, I used to update my TomTom Start25 SatNav device using the update application for that on a VM of Windows XP orignally, then Windows 7, and finally Windows 10. I found it very easy to attach the USB device to the VM by attaching it, using the USB menu in the VM but apart from keyboard...

Re: Redshift not working/glitching
I tried the configuration file solution it didn't work. Also, redshift doesn't open so I cannot alter any settings. Which solution do you mean? I have just found the system file which needs an edit to get geoclue2 working; it is /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf and you need to add the following stanza, si...

Re: Redshift not working/glitching
Use the manual location setting with your latitude and longitude; that works very much better than geoclue now though it used to work well once set up properly with an edit of one of its config files in /etc if I temember correctly.

Re: Curiosity: why do so many people only use Linux on old hardware?
Every computer except Mac, comes with Windows. So installing Linux means the computer is not new. We're really haggling over how old. The older a computer the easier it is to install Linux and I know from experience there are some really "curly" ones out there as far as getting into the B...

Re: some videos have sound and some have no sound when playing video using VLC on Ulyssa
I wonder if the videos with no sound are recorded using a codec for which you don't have the needed decoder. Install mediainfo then run command mediainfo filename using the pathway to the file of course. That will tell you the audio codec used for the sound and that may show it is different from vid...

Re: Uninstall Python 3.9.1 and install Python 3.7
You may find that synaptic is a very much easier way to search for packages than terminal; it gives you a GUI of course, and if you search for name alone with search term python you'll see quickly what is installed.

Tell us what your hardware is as well; the two GPU problem may be something that can be sorted more easily but not knowing what you have means we're shooting in the dark.
Could this be one of the systems using a dual GPU nvidia/optimus graphics system?

Re: Xfce4-weather-pluging (No Data)
Try just copying the libweather.so file from one of those debs into the correct place as mentioned above, ie, first rm /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/plugins/libweather.so then copy the extracted file in its place sudo cp path/to/extracted/libweather.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xfce4/panel/p...

Re: Uninstall Python 3.9.1 and install Python 3.7
I wonder if it's a good idea to remove a version of python; you may run into problems with other applications that the need the removed version. I'm not sure about versions 3.7.and 3.9 but usually you can have more than one python version installed without problems so it may be better to keep everyt...

Re: Recent package updates may have broken Firefox
What errors, if any, do you see if you start firefox with command firefox from terminal? A new default .mozilla config folder after temporarily renaming your current one usually means that firefox will start as the default clean application. What exactly do you see when starting with a new config fo...

Presumably MX-Linux and xfce-4.16 have both updated the API in the applet packages, or at least in the libweather.so file they contain

Re: Xfce4-weather-pluging (No Data)
I have just restored the package from the ubuntu repos but replaced the libweather.so file with the version from the .deb package in the PPA for xfce-4.16 at https://launchpad.net/~bluesabre/+archi ... /+packages.
That is still working at the moment!

Re: Xfce4-weather-plugin (No Data)
Try this installer package, straight from the Ubuntu repo's (which is always the best option): http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/xfce4-weather-plugin/xfce4-weather-plugin_0.11.0-1_amd64.deb Simply double-click the downloaded package in order to install it, just like you would do with...

Re: How Do You Deactivate Password When Installing Software
Use synaptic and you will enter your password only to open it; as long as it stays open you will not need to use your password again.

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
I must be very lucky or perhaps very astute as even in my days of using Windows, which I have not done since 2005, I only once paid for an application of any sort, Serif Page-Plus Desktop Publishing application, but everything else either came with my machines when purchased, was installed free of c...

Re: How to clean Apps Cache
I think you meant sudo apt autoclean , not autoremove! No, I checked. autoremove removes old kernels and retains two. autoclean cleans the cache. And I thought this thread was about cleaning up the cache of package files, not removing unwanted or unneeded applications including excess kernels, whic...

In which case I will again suggest you look at audio-recorder using that PPA at https://launchpad.net/~audio-recorder/+ ... ubuntu/ppa
You can not get much simpler than that application for audio recording.

Re: Failing on startup redshift
It looks as if the config file is empty which is why redshift is not working. Look for 5he default config file in /etc i think but I'm not using Linux at the moment so can not tell you exactly where it is. Command locate redshift will list all files with that word in their name and should point you ...
