Re: HDD Storage Mounted Poorly?
Whilst I don't disagree with comments from other posters above I have to say again that you will eventually have problems that can not be solved in Linux if you decide to continue with a partition formatted to NTFS. I therefore strongly recommend, as I said before, that you should reformat the disk'...

Re: HDD Storage Mounted Poorly?
As you have not got a Windows OS showing in your system it is certainly unwise to use ntfs file sýstems as you will have no way to repair them if anything goes wrong. I suggest you temporarily move all the data files, and there doesn't appear to be a huge space used for them at the moment, to anothe...

Re: HDD Storage Mounted Poorly?
And as those files are data files presumably owned by you as user, you can mount them wherever you want to, even in your own /home. It would certainly make sense to use fstab to mount the disk (actually the partition or oartitions) at boot and it could even be worth creating symbolic links to folder...

Re: The 2 files came back into the trash
Try to restore it by selecting it or right clicking it, to get it back to wherever it came from then remove it using cli if you really don't need it. I wonder if it is owned by a user (eg root) and not by you. Go to ~/.local/share/Trash/files/ and right click it to see permissions which will show th...

Re: Choosing a desktop environment?
but since your problem is not with Xfce but with Debian you do realize that LMDE is Debian, right? And it worked fine in LMDE, two screens. Ubuntu is also on Debian :D Yes, in a manner of speaking. However it's based on Debian but it does not use Debian repositories by default as LMDE does, and try...

Re: Firefox address book exported as zip file
What address book are you asking about?
Address books are usually email related, not browser, though if you are using a webmail system from Firefox we need to know a lot more detail.

Re: Choosing a desktop environment?
A long time ago I installed xfce on a previous version of LMDE alongside the default Cinnamon. I also removed as many of the obvious Cinnamon default applications such as the file manager, text-editor and terminal to avoid leaving too many duplicates of the same application type. I worked fine but I...

What I'm doing is collecting music so I can put them in my mp3 file for later use.. that's it... Sorry, but this still does not explain fully what you mean or are trying to do. Here's a possible scenario. 1 Download video or music files, possibly mp4, aac, flac, mkv, etc etc. 2 Convert those filety...

Re: gdebi - where did it go?
This may not be what you want to hear but it's much easier and faster in my opinion to use apt instead of gdebi, which I used to use all the time for .deb files installation. Just open a terminal in the folder where your .deb file sits, eg Downloads, and run command sudo apt install ./name.deb No ne...

Re: Why so many DE?
Debian itself used to be quite different from what is now available particularly in terms of the difficulties of installing it and choosing the DE version you want. Now you can download a net-install cd version and choose the DE from the installer, added to which it is easy to choose to add the non-...

Re: How can I repair UEFI?
After installing try shutting down the live system rather than rebooting it.
Once powered off remove the install medium (USB?) and then run the newly installed OS.
This way there should be no way for the computer to boot into the installer again.

Re: Who keeps changing how the icons in the task bar work?
"Applets" in Cinnamon is one of the reasons I use Xfce. K.I.S.S. For me it is that I use Xfce as it's the simplest and most easily configurable DE that I've ever tried. I used to like the look of cinnamon but it has become too heavy and complicated for me now so I use Xfce with two panels...

Re: How can I repair UEFI?
That first command should be sudo parted -l That's a lower case L at the end not numerical 1. You can certainly remove entries for debian and rixos? whatever that is using efibootmgr but I'll have to come back again with the correct command as I'm on a Tablet now with no easy access to the detail I ...

Did you check that the iso file you used was a good download as that can be a problem.
It is always worth using a torrent client to download iso files as they check it as it's downloaded and get any faulty packets again.

most likely, when you no longer have an software that you need to use, - that is an Windows based software program - :) guess I need to quit buying Garmin GPS units then  I will always keep my laptops dual boot, with a 4TB drive, who cares anyway? I gave up using a dedicated external GPS, and ...

Re: When did you start to realize Linux will never become the future of desktop computing?
Yes, I've still got one using Debian Stable. It's a 32bit machine but even with that Debian version using openbox window manager rather than a full DE, it is still painfully slow and useless for any video viewing such as YouTube. Time I scrapped it really, but it will soon become antiquated and star...

Re: Update Manager suggests updates to me every day
I always disable update-notifier in the autostart list in my Xfce versions of every distro I use. I normally run sudo apt update as my first activity of any session, or very soon after that so I don't need anything to tell me to do it; I do it when I'm ready. I also use nothing other then the comman...
