Re: Windows 8 how to add boot option
In the UEFI firmware settings (or what most think of as the BIOS menu) make sure that if there is an option to boot from USB that it is enabled. Also, you will probably need to set the "Secure boot" option to disabled. On my laptop (Lenovo Y580) which came with Win8 pre-installed. I did bo...

Re: Linux Mint 15 blank screen after GRUB loader
I'm having some trouble after upgrading from Mint 14 to Mint 15, and so far this is the only thread that gave me some useful info but does not really provide a solution. I have a Lenovo Y580 notebook with integrated Intel HD graphics and Nvidia GTX 660 GPU. I had no display issues with Mint 14 (eith...

Re: Mint-Xtra - updated icon theme for Mint
Just wanted to add that in the gnome-shell group on DeviantART, there's some additional Faenza icon variations that are pretty nice: Variations 2: http://gnome-shell.deviantart.com/gallery/28011584#/d3egmfu Variations 3: http://gnome-shell.deviantart.com/gallery/28011584#/d4bp25k Another good one is...

Re: Moving panel one
God Bless You. Unfortunately I'm neither in my teens nor have the vision of a fighter pilot. I'm 70 and have a lens replacement in one eye and a cataract in the other. But it worked. Now if it will stay there. Thanks again!!. Right click on the panel. Select "Properties" from the menu. It...

Re: Help! I can't install XBMC.
Looking at http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/dists/ , it would appear that there are no packages available for Natty (the version of Ubuntu that Mint 11 is derived from). You may get away with using 'Software Sources' to edit the PPA to maverick rather than natty. It will probably work,...

Re: Ubuntu-Tweak
This tool is called Ubuntu-Tweak, not Mint-Tweak. Thanks for stating the obvious. Since Natty many things you are accustomed to won't work that well with Mint 11 (please read the release notes and especially the natty flaws ). The developer wrote about issues with Mint three weeks ago . Thank you a...

Re: Ubuntu-Tweak
Did you have the normal list of PPA available to add? I only seem to have a few. What has that to do with Ubuntu Tweak? It's good manors to start a new thread for a new topic, rather than derail an existing one. He's probably referring to the same problem I am having with Ubuntu Tweak. There is alm...

Re: Mint 11 - xxx "is already running" problem
Have you tried opening up System Monitor, right-clicking on "firefox-bin," selecting "kill process," and then try to open firefox again?
alternatively, you could open up the terminal and type:
and then trying to reopen firefox.
alternatively, you could open up the terminal and type:
Code: Select all

Personally, I have given up on cairo/glx-dock. too buggy. I really like AWN with the lucido layout and Dockbarx integration though.

Re: NetworkManager failure
Either run Lucid/Isadora, or run Maverick. Don't try running pieces of Lucid along with pieces of Maverick together on the same system, or you're just asking for trouble. Why? Simply put, a new release most often comes with a whole new set of updated libraries (i.e. packages starting with "lib...

Re: Canon IP5200
Just thought I'd provide an update here. There were a bunch of package updates for CUPS and guntenprint this afternoon for Maverick (libs, drivers, GUIs, etc.). With these new updates, the printer manager found my printer over wireless connection and now successfully prints wirelessly.

Re: Mintmenu failure
If you're the type of person that likes cutting-edge software, or at least software that's more up-to-date than what you get in Ubuntu, you may as well go for a rolling release distro (e.g. LMDE, or pure Debian Testing/Unstable). I agree with JasonLG above though, it's probably not worth your time ...

I am getting a similar issue but it is not quite the same: On login, I received an error message that mintmenu failed and asked if I wanted to reload, but this did not accomplish anything. Here's the output from the terminal: ~ $ mintmenu Opacity is: 100 Setting opacity to: 1.0 /usr/lib/linuxmint/mi...

Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
Ok, so I posted my current set up a few pages back: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10828&start=3420#p313482 I was wondering if I might be able to get some feedback on my conky config. I cannot recall or find where I originally found the conkyrc off which my conkyrc is based....

Re: Canon IP5200
I have a IP5200R but used the IP5200 driver via CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.5 and was able to successfully install and print the test page while it was connected via USB. However, I am still having difficulty connecting to it and printing over wireless connection. I saw one post in another forum that claim...
