Re: Converting Jessie to Betsy

The thing is, I would like to switch to LMDE on my work computer, but I cannot spend an hour by complete reinstallation of system, and also I would like to keep my home folder and software as is. For same reason I cannot experiment with it so I'm asking if anybody successfully converted. I'll be su...

Re: Different DEs

I spend a lot of time using various environments. Don't really have a favorite. Across my different computers and installations, I currently have KDE, Xfce, GNOME Shell, Unity, LXDE, Cinnamon, and then also Openbox and Fluxbox. One thing I really like about Xfce is that I can set the panel up just t...

Re: Upload image to mint from mobile phone--how?

Most of the time, I simply send an image to my Gmail account in a text message, then download the image to the computer. Or if I want to transfer a bunch of images (or other files), I'll take the microSD card out of my phone and plug it into the computer (but not all phones have a microSD card). I'v...

Re: Learning Again is Fun and Frustrating

I now firmly believe in linux masochism. If it wasn't for that Easy Linux Tips website I would never have been able to get everything setup and smooth on that laptop. Good site. I stumbled upon it while looking into how to customize the grub boot menu background (see: Make your Grub boot menu...

Re: What actually distinguishes one distro from another?

Some things that come to mind: One could say "design vision" or "development philosophy" and I think that's along the same lines as "mission" or whatever. Or you could think of a distro's "target audience." You could check out Debian's Social Contract, for exa...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

@ te7: I'm kinda embarrassed to say that although I've been using various Linux distros for almost 10 years now, I have absolutely no experience with VirtualBox! Hard drive installations or live sessions, that's been about it for me. I suspect that web searches might provided better info to answer y...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

Can I download a live-cd ISO for the install? Yes, the you can do an installation with the live image -- I've done it here a few times. I didn't see any "Install" icon within the live session, though -- had to reboot and choose the installation option from the boot menu. After that it's j...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

Good info, killer de bug. Maybe I'll check back after Cinnamon has matured for a couple more years, then. Can't see myself switching from Debian to LMDE (or to anything else) on my main computer, although I'm kinda enjoying playing around with LMDE 2 and Cinnamon on one of the other machines. I'm no...

cinnamon panel - 4 things i'd like

I'm running LMDE 2, currently with Cinnamon 2.6.7. Not sure if I'm missing something or not, but I don't see anything in the configuration settings to do the following things with the panel: 1. Set the panel orientation to vertical instead of horizontal. 2. Set the panel width to less than 100% acro...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

I've now got Cinnamon 2.6.7 in LMDE, but in Jessie it's Cinnamon 2.2.16-5, and that won't be changing in Jessie. And that, in my opinion, is more than enough reason to choose Betsy over Jessie for my main system. I can see how that would be a good reason for some to make that choice. I have Jessie ...

Re: Any info for an LMDE newbie?

What can I expect to be different about LMDE? Things I should know? When I first saw this, I was thinking of the differences between LMDE 2 and Debian Jessie. I've been following this thread because I'm "an LMDE newbie" -- it's been a long time since I've had any Mint release installed he...

Now running Debian Jessie, Arch, Ubuntu 14.04, openSUSE 13.2, Lubuntu 14.04, and LMDE 2. First time getting a foot back into the Mint world in quite some time (since Isadora).

Re: Debian fanaticism

Probably the one thing I dislike most about the Debian User Forums is the Ubuntu-bashing. I think it's been a lot worse in the past than it is now.

But, frankly, there's been a lot of Ubuntu-bashing here, too. Which I find incredibly ironic, for obvious reasons.

Re: Debian fanaticism

In reality Debian is extremely easy to install, it just takes a while. I agree. These same people seem to always install some obscure window manager on their system to try and meke themselves seem more knowledgeable. I don't agree with that generalization, though. I don't think that anyone, not eve...

Re: Systemd

If systemd really is not that good than things will most likely go in another direction. Change is constant in Linux, it always will be. My advise is to just relax and see where things go. I agree with this. Whatever, Fedora already had systemd when I was running that distro. I was using Sabayon wh...

Re: Linux Mint 17.1 “Rebecca” Cinnamon released!

It's been awhile since I've looked in on Linux Mint. Running the live session of Mint 17.1 Cinnamon, from a flash drive, done with Unetbootin. Looks like a very nice release!
