Re: Is encryption tied to the motherboard?

It can boot into Linux on a USB I use the USB to navigate to /home on the HD and get Access-Your-Private-Data but that is locked. So am back to the st...

Fan not working watching films

Fan does not start/run while watching films. So films become "choppy", and unwatchable because of over heating? Fan seems to work the rest of the time, so it is not the fan. Running Cinnamon 17.2 using ?Totem? 3.10.1 Symptoms Play film. Fan does not start. Laptop overheats. Restart the laptop the fa...

Re: Micro SD cards

That was not a rant. That was a moan or a gripe. Not a rant. I don't have those problems, btw. I just plug my cards in and voilà! That is as valid as my gripe. "oh my shit works great so it must be you/your equipment". Card works. Card holder works Card reader works. Card reader in Linux does not wo...

Re: Micro SD cards

I had a similar problem. I had a nice new micro sd card, and used the supplied adapter for it in my laptop, it didn't want to know. Put the micro sdcard in an old and new adapter and it worked fine. It may be related, maybe not, but it might be useful info one day. Thank you but... Nope. Been there...

Re: Micro SD cards

Not all of us are as wonderful/lucky as you cleanly format your card to dos/fat32 format. If it formats successfully, but can't be accessed on your linux machine, I would suspect a hardware problem and not a SD card or linux problem. Nopety nope. Same sd card same reader. Only difference is windoze ...

Yes.

I need to change/update my OS. But it is not an real option right now. That is a lot of work.
Not the install. But making backups, storing all the data, book marks passwords etc etc.

While it is the most valid option, it is not currently practical.

Re: Adding a Brother DCP J100

Yeah I found that already.... A Brother printer is nowadays easily installable in Ubuntu or Linux Mint. You can apply this how-to: LOL! download linux-brprinter-installer. Does not exist! d. Now copy/paste the following command into the terminal, in order to unzip the downloaded file (it's one line)...

Adding a Brother DCP J100

Hi.

I already have a Brother DCP 7070DW, I have just added a DCP J100. But the new printer does not print.

It can scan etc, so it is "seen" and installed.

When I click print everything looks normal but nothing prints.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Grub Ressuce

Removing the hard drive gave access to a boot menu. Then putting the HD back in still left access to a boot menu. No bios just a boot menu. That was all that I needed. Linux is now loading from a cd. Thank you, that worked. Now will write Linux over the top of everything in one partition. But first,...

Re: Grub Ressuce

Thank you for the replies. There is no access to BIOS. None. F1 to F12 do not give access to bios. :( If I could get bios..... This would be easy. The command "ls" shows: (hd0) (hd,msdos2) (hd0, msdos1) Any other "ls" command returns "no such partition" or "unknown file system" The only other answer...
