How to: Brother Printer and scanner in Mint19

NOTE: I used my printer name and brsane3 file. YOU need to substitute yours. Depending on you printer model, you may have a different brsane file type. You can get them from the Brother website on the Driver page. https://www.brother-usa.com/brother-support/driver-downloads You MUST enter your print...

Re: Driver Manager out of date

The adventure!: I used the PPA as shown in the website, and selected the most current one listed. Reboot Lots of programs no longer run, like Steam. Error says missing libGL.so when launching "Tower of Guns" from the terminal I discovered that was something related to 32 bit. Trying a 64 bit program...

Re: Problem with Amazon

Chrome is spyware, I use it only for streaming. Everyday browsing I use Firefox, with Privacy Badger, the one from EFF, installed. I have had no issues not related to streaming.

Re: Keyboard fails after login(SOLVED?)

I was going through this and saw this. I no longer have the issue. The only thing changed was the Kernel and the update to Mint 18.2

Any one else that has this It stopped after kernel 4.13. I had forgotten all about this issue.

Driver Manager out of date (Lesson learned)

Is it normal for the Driver Manager "Non-Free" drivers to be VERY out of date? The Current one shown for my card is so old it is not even in the list for the listed drivers on the Nvidia page. Driver Manager shows ver: 384.130 Website shows : 440.44 (newest) Does a way exist to tell the manager to u...

Re: Large file copy to external device issue

On a guess, and due to other odd issues I just noticed on the drive, I decided to check it. Since it is in NTFS format, as I use it to store Windoze tools, servicepacks and useful files, I had access to a windows system to run chkdsk on it. It kicked back some errors, since they are repeating, after...

Re: Large file copy to external device issue

I have Mint 18.2 MATE

I don't really want to learn the quirks of another file manager, so I will stick with what I have. I think it is Caja.
I also do a "sync" in a terminal after copying, and before ejecting the drive - flushes the IO buffers.
How do you "sync"? That could be a workaround.

Re: Keyboard fails after login

I have tried another kernel, 4.10.0-38. I do not see any change. This may be related to an autosuspend issue, see here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/772056/ ... -04#813298 I read through this, looking in the locations, Solution 2 claims "Note that autosuspend_delay_ms has replaced the deprecated ...

Re: Keyboard fails after login(SOLVED?)

I am able to log on, and type my password, sometimes about a minute or so later, the keyboard is 100% unresponsive, caps lock wont toggle, nothing works. When this happens, the Num Lock light goes off.(sec 1) When it happens later, an hour or more, the num lock stays on, but the keyboard is still 10...

Searching for hidden files <Solved>

It is possible I am doing this wrong, so here is what is happening. I wanted to search for a file, which is called "savegame1.ksg" I typed the following with no results "ksg" "*.ksg" "savegame" "save" "savegame1.ksg" I contacted the developer, and they said to look for a hidden folder in my user dir...

Re: Change default file icons

Ok then, I did browse through the preinstalled, looks like everyone has the same icon for deb and compressed files. While they may differ from each other. I will see what the site you mentioned has to offer, I really don't want something to drastically different. I may just have to get used to to th...

It is the preview, and it was turned off.

For others who want this: From the Control Center goto the "Personal" section and click on "File Management" click the "Preview" tab. You can change your option here.

Re: Install help for Brother Printer

You have to install the drivers in the right order. I don't remember if Brother is very clear on this anymore, but I took notes when I last did mine. Remove what you have through the package manager. Make sure connected to printer network. I also used the deb files. install LPR then CUPS In your cas...

Change default file icons

I have Mint 18.2, I want to change the icon for deb files to something like what 17.3 had. Currently it is a compressed file icon, and I just don't like it and would rather have something different.
In both instances I had MATE as my desktop.

Re: Steam on Mint 18.2

Download STEAM through the Software Manager. BUT first remove what you have so you don't get any conflicts.

I have STEAM and installed it this way, it works as it should for me.
