Wifi unavailable on Linux Mint 18.2 with Broadcom; potentially related to kernel updates

Here's the problem basically: on kernel 4.8.0-58, the wifi continues to work as expected. On kernels 4.10.0-30 and 4.11.0-14, however, the wifi disappears completely. Not only can I not connect to the wifi, but if I click on the Connections applet on the panel, there is no reference to wifi at all -...

[Solved] Bluetooth issues - won't connect to mouse

I have spent a very long time researching a solution to my problem, and I have not had any luck. Here is what I expect to happen: -When I right click on the bluetooth manager and hit "Set up device", it will find my device and ask me for the pin, and pair with my device. Here is what actually happen...

Re: Mint 18 Mate Kdenlive tooltips blank

Hey, I was having the same issue. You got me half of the way there, thanks.

All I had to do was go to the Settings Menu and set the Style to "Breeze" or "Windows". The tooltips are now visible.

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 Quiet Audio Through Speakers

In case you haven't done so already, check and make sure the speakers are plugged in securely. Sometimes that happens to me when the jack isn't seated quite right - it seems like it's in nice and tight, but it's not.

Re: No boot after installing broadcon driver

I was having some issues with my network card after the internet went out. The Broadcom driver was going nuts, and I had to disable the wireless to keep my computer from freezing. It resolved itself after I reset the UEFI to the default settings. I don't know if that will solve your problem, but it ...

[SOLVED] Hardware problems related to internet

Earlier today, the internet went down for a couple hours until I reset the router. Once it came back up, I started using Firefox and my Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon system crashed. I couldn't move the mouse, and could not get CTRL+ALT+F1 to work. I was forced to hold the power button. This problem persi...

Great Cannon / Man in the Middle - Steps to take?

I found this article today: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/11/technology/china-is-said-to-use-powerful-new-weapon-to-censor-internet.html To summarize, it claims that China has launched a major attack on certain websites, including Github, using a new technology. Particularly of interest to me as an...

Re: Transfering to a new computer

That sounds good, thank you! Another question about marking the packages... Is there an easy way to differentiate between the level 1-3 and the 4-5 updates? If I mark the packages, it doesn't discriminate. If not, I'll just list them by hand, and weed them out later, but I thought I'd ask.

Transfering to a new computer

I am going to be getting a new computer. I was wondering if I could just take physically take the SDD out of my old computer and plug it in to the new computer and go, or do I have to do a new installation of Rebecca? My new computer will have very little in common with the old computer in terms of ...

Just a friendly reminder since you haven't done this in a long time - back everything up first, because if you do a fresh install, the new version will overwrite the old version.

Re: Newbie Considering Linux Mint-17-64bit Install .....

If you don't wish to install Linux Mint to your Hard Drive, there may be another option. If you have a flashdrive or external hard drive (greater than 6GB, I believe), you can install Linux Mint and boot from that device. Be forewarned that doing so will delete everything off of that device unless y...

Re: Newbie Considering Linux Mint-17-64bit Install .....

If you have an extra USB flashdrive, can you start your computer on the live DVD, type in lspci -vvv and lsusb to the terminal and save the results to the USB drive? 1. Make sure you have your wireless adapter plugged in (very important) 2. Open terminal (start menu → accessories → terminal) 3. Type...

For what it's worth (and I don't know if it is related), on September 11, my desktop background defaulted to the LinuxMint wallpaper, although I haven't noticed any other problems with Cinnamon or with my terminal. I definitely was not messing around with any settings. I have been keeping up with th...

Okay, I'm glad you are going to give it a whirl! Make sure you follow those directions very carefully and backup everything that you care about first (you should be fine if you follow the instructions, but better not to risk it). I agree that you should do the MD5SUM check - it's pretty annoying hav...
