Re: More than one problem with Mint 11
Thanks for the reply Vincent. It has just 1 gig of memory, and I don't see the point of upgrading as it's just being used for the internet and the odd old game. That should be enough I guess, and Mint runs quite smoothly up until the crash. I've also done a few tests on the harddisk and they've come...

More than one problem with Mint 11
Bought a second hand computer with a foxconn p4m890 motherboard, 64mb on-board graphics, pentium dual core and a 160gb sata drive. After getting round bad sector problems, I managed to dual boot it with XP, but then on first time boot into Mint, it simply froze and crashed. I rebooted it, went to co...

Mint Debian Wallpaper
It's my first attempt, so be kind  I did look for a 'mega thread', but couldn't find one. It's a little bit ropey and only available in 1280x800, but the idea is there I think.. http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7988/lmback1.jpg 1280x800 http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7988/lmback1.jpg

Entering root password in script
Basically I save up the stuff I want to delete and then once a week or so I'll wipe it over night. But then I want the computer to shutdown after it's finished but it tells me I need to enter the su password. I've tried a few different ways with no luck and I can't find the answer on google. This is...

Re: usb Belkin Wireless Adaptor
If you still have Windows and the dongle software, install it in Windows. Now in Mint, locate the .inf file via Ndiswrapper found in mint menu.

Re: Nokia c3 Bluetooth Problems
I simply can't get the phone to connect to the computer via bluetooth if I've got a giffgaff or a three sim in the phone, yet it works perfectly with a voda or t-mob sim. Bizarre.
Transferring files isn't a problem and my device is being seen in the network manager drop down. I just don't know..

Nokia c3 Bluetooth Problems
I got a Nokia c3 mobile the other day on vodafone, hooked it up to bluetooth on my laptop and was online no problem. I then get it unlocked and put my giffgaff sim in and updated everything but it just won't hook up to the network manager in Mint. The bluetooth connects for a second on my phone and ...

'at' Command
Could someone please show me how to use the 'at' command to start up an application, e.g. Firefox. I've tried: at hhmm start /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox start firefox firefox It probably seems pretty useless to most people, but I would like to eventually create a script where I could set a num...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC
I've had to switch back to Isadora for the time being as my mobile internet keeps dropping out at least every ten minutes without fail with Julia. Really hope this gets sorted with the full release.

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC
Install was flawless and thankfully idiot proof. Didn't really like the new look at first but I'm slowly getting used to it and actually starting to like it, and the only thing I've changed is the menu icon for the LM9 menu icon. Graphics card and the USB wireless dongle worked perfectly after the d...

Re: Shredding
im not sure how to fix your problem. But i shred a different way by adding it to the right-click menu. (easier than terminal) Heres a link with instructions http://www.ubuntugeek.com/tools-to-delete-files-securely-in-ubuntu-linux.html This is the thing I was looking for when I first installed Mint,...

Shredding
A real newbie question here, but I'm stuck. I'm using shred, where am I going wrong? shred -n=10 -fuz file.ext shred -fuz file.ext -n=10 But I get, shred: =10: invalid number of passes And I get that for every number I try. I can delete a file with 'shred -fuz file.ext' no problem, I just want to be...
