I think MiZoG nailed it (in spirit) – someone just wants to to politicize Linux and/or Open Source.

Or, I would add, anything else for that matter...

Re: How is Linux Mint (and other Linux distros) protected from foreign influence & possible takeover ?

I read through those linked sites. Both seem to be preaching political messages with regurgitated tropes and cliches. I might have taken them seriously had they talked about rapacious corporations trying to hijack personal data for monetary gain or that sort of thing. But, oh well... I am a sceptic ...

Re: Question about browsers

I usually use Vivaldi – I just like its bells and whistles. I also have five sort-of 'emergency back-up' browsers for those times a page just plain won't work on Vivaldi (Firefox, Brave, Opera, and Falkon). Seems a bit excessive, as far as redundancy goes, but at least I can be 99.99999% certain tha...

Anyone know how to install Tk for Ruby? (Mint Xfce)

Hi there! I've been messing around with Ruby rather a lot to help pass the time, and thought I'd try my hand at some GUI stuff . I did try looking at sites like this one from Thought Co. . No joy, so far, though. :( I tried this command from the above site (keeping in mind it's from 2019, and recomm...

Re: Annoying geany crashes

Hi, Again, smurphos! The symbolic link is 'normal' - appears in ~/.config/geany when geany is launched without the --config argument, disappears again when geany is closed down. It's only persistent for you because geany is crashing. run/user/1000/ is a special location - a tmpfs (held in RAM) files...

Re: Annoying geany crashes

Wee bit of an update... I made a new Ruby configuration file from scratch (which means I just copied all the default files from ~/.config/geany into it). Making sure that was a folder not in Dropbox. No crashing upon making a new file from one of my templates and clicking on that window immediately ...

Re: Annoying geany crashes

Hi again, smurphos. I tried running a configuration file outside of Dropbox, but encountered the same problem. BUT, I did notice something I'd missed before, a new (and weird) sym0 bolic link is created every time this crash happens. Here's my bash output when I gave it a go with a Ruby configuratio...

Re: Annoying geany crashes

/home/malcolm/Dropbox/programming/Python/.geany_python is a directory with an alternative config for geany? Can you share the contents you are using that causes the crash? First step is to see if others can replicate the issue. Might be worth checking if sticking that directory somewhere other than...

[SOLVED] Annoying geany crashes

Hi there! I have been experiencing an annoying problem with geany... This problem does not happen when I run geany normally through the menu or via calling geany via the terminal. The thing is, I am being a Mr. Clever Clogs and running separate bash files for each programming language I us...

Re: Alt-Tab to switch windows changed somehow

Have you looked at the options on the "Cycling" tab of "Window Manager Tweaks" (found under Settings in the main menu)? Edit: may not apply if you're using Compiz - in which case perhaps turn off Compiz... Aha! It's working again now! It took a bit of bumbling about, but you gav...

Re: Alt-Tab window cycling not using the default GUI (Xfce)

Well, alt-tab does do something . It still cycles through the open windows. But what id does NOT do is a GUI display of open windows to cycle through as you keep hitting Alt-Tab or one of the arrow keys. Go into System Settings, select Windows then select the Alt-Tab tab. My apologies. I only just ...

Alt-Tab to switch windows changed somehow [SOLVED]

Hi there! Somewhere along the line I must have somehow changed the behaviour of how Alt-Tab switches between windows. It was, as usual, showing a window with a graphic of each window to cycle through. It doesn't do that now. I tried looking through all the Window settings to see if I could get it ba...

Re: Maximize Terminal from Thunar?

This should work. In Thunar, click on Edit > Configure custom actions ... Select Open in Terminal then click on the pencil icon to edit the command to the same as what you do otherwise. Copy the existing command before changing it so you can easily revert if it doesn't work. Oh, cool. I didn't even...

Maximize Terminal from Thunar? [SOLVED]

Hi, all. Just one question for the 'nice to have' category... The thing is, when I open the terminal, I prefer to have it maximized. Easy enough to set launchers and menu items to do that. Easy-peasy! But does anyone know if you can set Thunar to maximize the terminal if you open the terminal from T...

Re: Disable keyring permanently? [mostly solved]

Hi! I'm running Mint 20 Xfce on a laptop. Thing is I want to completely disable keyring. I thought I had it turned off through that seahorse (passwords and keys) application. But it still occurs sometimes when I run VIvaldi. Is there some way to completely disable or remove keyring? It's quite anno...
