SOLVED: Nemo not re-sorting by column type.

In LM 19.2 on Macbook Pro (mid-2012), the file manager Nemo won't resort files by "date", "type" or "date modified" when those column names are clicked in List View. Nothing happens. Files remain sorted by "name". Any suggestions? Or is this a bug?

EDIT: Simply restarting the laptop fixed the issue.

Battery indicator showing incorrect charge percentage on Macbook Pro

In Cinnamon 19.2 on Macbook pro mid 2012, on a full charge, the battery icon itself shows all the bars on a full charge, but it reports "55%". I've already tried recalibrating the battery by draining it until the system shuts down and then recharging it to full capacity. I suspect it's a gnome-power...

Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon Wifi drops on Macbook pro mid-2012

Often my wifi connection drops out on my macbook pro mid-2012 even though the taskbar indicator in Cinnamon 19.2 still reports that I am connected. I have to disable and then re-enable Wifi to reconnect. Disabling Wifi power management and IPV6 doesn't appear to help. It could be a router issue. How...

Suggestion: Add Safeeyes to default program list.

Safeeyes is a great complement to Redshift in preventing eye strain by providing scheduled breaks and suggested eye exercises. I suggest it be added as a default app along with Red Shift. For now, one can it install manually: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:slgobinath/safeeyes sudo apt update sudo apt i...

Re: TLP cpu govenor settings are overridden by Linuxmint

The answer was pretty simple: In terminal, run: sudo systemctl disable ondemand reboot this disables the startup script(?) that sets the machine to ondemand (powersave) at startup. PS: I just discovered a wonderful GUI for TLP, TLPUI To install it, copy and paste the following into the terminal: sud...

SOLVED: TLP cpu govenor settings are overridden by Linuxmint

I've set the CPU governor to "performance" when on AC in TLP's config file. However, LInuxmint Cinnamon 19.2 by default overrides the TLP settings with "powersave". How can I make TLP's settings work? I suspect I have to disable some installed daemon to allow TLP governor settings to have priority?

Macbook Pro Delete key in Cinnamon?

Hi Folks,
I can't get the delete key to work properly in LM 19.2 Cinnamon when deleting files, etc from Nemo. I've tried delete, ctrl+delete, option+delete, It just navigates up to the parent directory (backspaces through navigation). Any suggestions?

Thanks for your replies. I"ll do some more experimenting with various apps in Cinnamon. Perhaps, I am was to quick in my conclusion based on my past experience with various gnu-linux distros.

Make Power management more "intelligent"

It appears that in Cinnamon, the computer will suspend without user activity even when there is network or cpu activity (e.g., downloading a file or watching a video) . (No Gnu-Linux distro that I have tried has gotten this right.) To my recollection, Windows and Mac don't suspend unless there is tr...

USB standard install vs live with persistance?

I am sure this question has been asked numerous times, but I am not finding much when searching. What is the best way of installing Linuxmint Cinnamon on a usb stick that will work on multiple computers. If I do a standard install onto a USB, am I limited to using the USB stick OS with the computer ...

Re: Kernel mitigations=off for older Intel Cpu?

Apparently, since the linux kernels for Ubuntu distros are compiled with Retpolines instead of IBRS, the performance hit of the mitigations are less. At some point, I may compare the performance of disabling the migrations. If I do, I'll post the results. "A Phoronix reader pointed out this opensuse...

Kernel mitigations=off for older Intel Cpu?

Hello, I want to optimize performance of Cinnamon 19 on my older Acer Aspire one netbook which has an Intel Atom cpu. Would disabling the recent kernal security mitigations using "mitigations=off" make a noticeable difference for everyday applications, not gaming--web browsing? See article: https://...

Improve suspend/sleep options with keepawake.py

Hello, Please consider improving the suspend/sleep function in Linuxmint, by implementing a script such as keepawake.py, ideally integrating something like it into the power manager GUI. Keepawake.py provides adjustable thresholds, other than just duration of no user activity, including minimal cpu ...

Re: For those who have tried Cinnamon or Mate: why do you use Xfce?

I prefer XFCE because it's generally less memory intensive and more easily customizable. The Whisker menu is simple, fast, intuitive. I also like a couple of the panel plugins like "Places" and "Weather". I think Mate would be my second choice. Mate has a nice big start menu. Cinnamon is a beautiful...

Re: [Tutorial] Improving Thunar in XFCE by opening new tabs instead of windows with Bash.

Your welcome. For firefox, I had to do the following so that "Open containing folder" on downloads launched the thunartab script instead of a new instance of thunar: reset the default application for the "inode/directory" mime type by choosing another default application and then reselecting "File M...

Re: Future directions for Mint?

The Linux mint future road map given at https://github.com/linuxmint/Roadmap doesn't seem to mention XFCE. I hope that the developers of Linux Mint will continue to give it some love as well. IMO, Linux Mint's version of XFCE is one of the best XFCE distros out there. It's stable, fast, actually fas...
