Re: How can I change window border appearance?

Thank you all for your replies. I was actually thinking of editing the Mint-Y-Dark theme in question by coping the folder with the theme and running it through GIMP, editing some elements to make it look more to what I want it to look like. I will give it a try and report here on my attempt(s). :D

How can I change window border appearance?

I love the dark theme, it's easier on the eyes. However, it's so dark, I can't see the edges of windows, can't tell where one tab starts and another ends, etc. Is there a way to make it look more distinct, like what I did here in Gimp:

Congratulations on the speedup. The next step is overclocking and liquid helium cooling. :D
Ha! Bring it on, mate! How do I do that, exactly?

Re: MATE, Cinnamon or Xfce - which is the lightest?

I did upgrade to SSD drive and I sure can say this old and slow netbook is at least usable now. What I can do now that I couldn't before the upgrade of SSD and 2GB RAM: - browse the internet without the system "hang" for aeons - connect to Zoom (it wouldn't connect no matter what I tried before the ...

google chrome/chromium-browser in LM20

Sorry, I think I missed all the information about Google chrome/chromium not being supported by LM20. Can anyone point to a link where it is explained why? Is it only because of no snap support that it was rejected? If I install Chrome from the official website will it somehow affect my LM20 system ...

Re: Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Xfce released!

Been using MATE since LM13 Maya, this time I switched to Xfce and WOW, I thought MATE was the best (it still is!), but Xfce is beautiful and lighter on my system!

Re: MATE, Cinnamon or Xfce - which is the lightest?

You can also make a big change to resource usage by switching off things like thumbnails in Nemo. That had a better impact on my notebook than switching between Cinnamon/MATE/Xfce. Based on working on many computers and exchanging ideas with a heap of people, the two biggest ways to improve the mos...

Re: MATE, Cinnamon or Xfce - which is the lightest?

Cool, thank you both for your replies. Now, can you actually install a MATE menu (which I prefer) in Xfce Mint? Will that come along with loads of other MATE dependencies?

MATE, Cinnamon or Xfce - which is the lightest?

The release page lists all of the 3 flavors as having EXACTLY the same hardware requirements: 1GB RAM (2GB recommended for a comfortable usage) 15GB of disk space (20GB recommended) Question: does that mean that they are equally resource hungry? Is it only a myth that Xfce is the lightest on resourc...

I've made a "custom Live install 'disk'" (USB.iso whatever) from my running system using Systemback.
How did you install Systemback? The last version it installs to is Ubuntu 16.04.

share system audio on Skype?

Hello, Is there a way I could share my system audio on Skype while having a Skype call? Other Skype users tell me they can share system audio when sharing screen, I don't see this option on my Linux Mint 19.3. For example in an online lesson, I would like to share an audio file so that the students ...

Re: Logitech C200 webcam keeps on disconnecting

Somewhere in Skype's settings there's something similar to "Allow Skype to configure mic devices" so try changing that one and see if the issue disappears. Actually I don't see this option in Skype anywhere on Linux Mint. The thing is, even if I use Zoom, the situation is EXACTLY the same. So this ...

Logitech C200 webcam keeps on disconnecting

Hello I have a weird problem with my Logitech C200 webcam and Skype (8.59.0.77). The camera works, but the problem is, upon each new Skype call, I first need to unplug it from the USB and plug it again for it to work properly. It happens every time I call someone on Skype. If I don't unplug/plug aft...

Re: Old computer / "weak" hardware: LM-Xfce or LMDE?

What's happening to your Mate makes no sense, so try to figure out what's the problem. You shouldn't have any problem at all with those specs. What you say about Chrome makes me think it's probably your java and flash, outdated. Try with another browser, and also update the system. My system is upd...

Re: Old computer / "weak" hardware: LM-Xfce or LMDE?

I have exactly the same dilemma. My computer is Intel® Xeon(R) CPU 5130 @ 2.00GHz × 2 with 3.8GB RAM. I'm currently on LM 19.3 Tricia, 64-bit MATE. I've been running Linux Mint on it since version 9. Now, though, my system is becoming more and more unresponsive to the point that I have to restart my...

Which RAM do I need?

Hello, I am trying to upgrade my memory but I have no idea what all of these different types are. I already bought a set that I had to return because it was incompatible with my motherboard. can't install wine on a fresh install

LM 19.3 Tricia MATE, freshly installed I can't install wine it gives me dependency hell error. Any way around it? Thanks. The following packages have unmet dependencies: wine-stable : Depends: wine-stable-i386 (= 5.0.0~bionic) Depends: wine-stable-amd64 (= 5.0.0~bionic) but it is not going to be ins...

can you REALLY run a LTS Mint from day 1 to EOL (end of life) without reinstalling?

Can you REALLY run a freshly installed LTS Mint from day 1 to its last day of support without having to reinstall the system due to broken stuff? I've never been able to do so... and I've been using Linux for over a decade now. Am I doing something wrong? Errors include broken dependencies, missing ...
