Re: Xfce on CD

I also need a CD sized image. I really want a rolling distribution but have old hardware. No DVD drive no BIOS network boot. A CD sized image would bring me back to Linux Mint, the distro I learned with :)

Trouble starting conky. [Solved]

I have Conky installed and I have a good, working conkymain script. I have gone to Preferences/Startup Applications and added a launcher pointing to: conky -c ~/Conky/conkymain (per a forum I've been reading working at this) When I reboot, I get the regular black-box conky on my desktop. If run the ...

Re: Problem removing gnome panel

Thanks for the direction. Unfortunately, Both those links took me to directions to do exactly want I listed I had already tried. What got the job done was a suggestion for one of the fine gentleman in irc.freenode.com #cairo-dock. He suggested that I trick whatever app is launching the panel with su...

Re: Keyboard dosen't work

I inputed those codes while booting the Ubuntu 10.10 liveCD (that cd has an easy way to do so) and when it came up my keyboard still didn't work.

Any other ideas?

Keyboard doesn't work after boot

I have been working on this problem for a year now. It is becoming critical because I need to upgrade my Linux Mint. Keyboard works fine at power on. I can edit BIOS options. I put in the CD or DVD, it starts fine. Keyboard works for selecting boot options. Once the installation begins however, no m...

Re: Setting Boot Options for LMDE Install

Do need to use a USB keyboard to get through the install and then edit grub?

Will it work?

Setting Boot Options for LMDE Install

I have been having a keyboard problem for a year now. I am dual-booting Mint 8 and Win 7 and an ACER 5517 with burg, everything works great. Whenever I try to install ANY other version or distro my keyboard dosen't work after the bootloader though. I wonder why just Mint 8 works? I finally found som...

Re: Keyboard dosen't work

Getting to where I NEED a fix. Mint 8 is getting outdated, programs are starting to not support it.

I think I've found a fix. I read on another thread to insert 'i8042.nopnp=1 i8042.dumbkbd=1' into the boot options. What exactly will this do? How to I go about doing it with my LMDE disk?

Re: Enabling wireless on a computer with no internet

I have resolved the issue. But thanks. The root of my problem, was that until I got fwcutter, I didn't have access to a linux box. For as popular as I read it is, I have never even met another person who runs linux at home. I was trying to do it through windows so I could put the linux partitions on...

Re: Enabling wireless on a computer with no internet

I did. For 12 hours, also in and out of various irc channels. No worries tho, the ubuntu community proved much more helpful. I have very little success getting anything resolved in this forum. This is frustrating since I am completely in love with Linux Mint. I have run nearly every major distributi...

Enabling wireless with no internet [solved]

I have an Acer laptop with windows 7 and a freshly installed Mint 8. I don't have internet and can only connect wirelessly through a public network. I've installed Mint 8 several times before. Re: Wireless drivers without internet connection

I just downloaded hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_38.tar -the STA driver, from Broadcom's website I am not exactly sure what to do with it or weather it's what I need. I'm currently looking at the readme that came with it. I am not THAT experienced with linux and it seems intimidating. Ok, I also ju...

Re: Wireless drivers without internet connection

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I ran lsmod an didn't recognize any of the information it gave me. What is it?
lspci told me it's a Broadcom BCM4312

It is offering me the Broadcom B43 Wireless driver (also referred to as fwcutter)
and the Broadcom STA wireless driver.
