Re: Thunar, file-roller, and xarchiver

Hi guinnessthecat,

If you don't need/use xarchiver why not simply uninstall it? The thunar-archive-plugin will work quite happily with file-roller.

Re: Is cinnamon-desktop supposed to install under xfce?

Hi Brody,

I also got that update. No, you don't need it. If you uninstall it then xviewer (Image Viewer) will also be uninstalled. I already had another image viewer installed so I just uninstalled cinnamon-desktop-data which took libcinnamon-desktop4 and xviewer with it.

Hope this helps.

Re: Change fonts for icons in the Desktop

Hi bich_30,

If you mean the text directly under an icon than this is it. Otherwise I don't know what you mean by "the font used in desktop icons".

Re: Any way to make Gnome windows use XFCE theme?

Hi Pheeble,

I can't speak to fonts, but for Calculator you may want to try mate-calc. It''s the same as the Gnome version. I tested it with the Wallis theme and it does use it.
I prefer to use the MATE version instead of the Gnome Version whenever possible. Hope this helps.

Re: After update to LM 19.3 icon font color wrong

Hi catweazle352, I believe I can help you part of the way. 19.3 is using Xfce 14.4 which is now GTK3 based. This means that .gtlrc2-0 is no longer used. You now use ./.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css for those changes. I use a simple one that contains this: XfdesktopIconView.label { color: black; text-shadow...

Re: Panel is messed up with flexible space on extreme right.

Hi lonely_llama,

It looks like you put the Separator all the way to the left side. It should be just to the left of the notification area.
So you get: everything else Separator notification area clock

Re: Panel is messed up with flexible space on extreme right.

Hi lonely_llama, Try this: Menu -> Settings -> Panel On the Display tab make sure Length is set to 100%. Then, on the Items tab add the item "Separator". Choose the property "Style" you want and most important check "Expand". Then move the separator to the left of the notification area. Is that what...

Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” Xfce – BETA Release

Concerning the volume control icon: xfce4-mixer (LM18) has been replaced with xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin in LM19. To adjust the size of the icon try this: In your home folder in the (hidden) folder ".config" create the folder "gtk-3.0". In that folder create the file "gtk.css". In that file paste the f...

Re: My changes to apt sources keep being reversed?

Hi mattlach, Have a look at /etc/cron.daily/google-chrome This is installed when Chrome is installed. It runs once a day and resets the entry in google-chrome.list if it is not what it expects to find. The entry at /etc/cron.daily/google-chrome is a symlink to /opt/google/chrome/cron/google-chrome. ...

Re: How Did I Create This Shortcut?

Hi White Phoenix,

I can get this with copy/paste. I copy a folder and then paste it into the "Desktop" folder in my Home folder. It shows up on the desktop and it is not a symlink.

Re: Opera and Firejail

Hi invfor, What version of firejail are you using? Later versions include a profile for Opera in /etc/firejail. If that profile is missing you might want to install the latest version (0.9.38) from the firejail site. I don't have Opera installed so I can't say if it works or not. It may be helpful t...

Ubuntu 16.04, Linux Mint 18; can I still use upstart?

2 questions: Will Ubuntu continue to maintain upstart, given the switch to systemd? Can you switch out systemd for upstart after installing LM 18? I have been using systemd on Debian (tracking testing) for +/- 2 years and it is not the monster some claim it to be. Most of the objections I have read ...

Hi vikar, Assuming that your computer at work and at home are at the same level (same OS, same version) you could do it this way: When you install an app or updates they are first downloaded to /var/cache/apt/archives So, before you install anything I would enter the following 2 commands in a termin...

Re: How to set Opera as the default browser?

Hi bt101, In Thunar: Right click on an object you want to open with Opera and choose "Properties". In "Open with" you should be able to set this to opera. If this doesn't stick then there is the brute force method. In your Home folder open the file ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list and chang...
