Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” Xfce – BETA Release
Concerning the volume control icon: xfce4-mixer (LM18) has been replaced with xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin in LM19. To adjust the size of the icon try this: In your home folder in the (hidden) folder ".config" create the folder "gtk-3.0". In that folder create the file "gtk.css". In that file paste the f...

Re: My changes to apt sources keep being reversed?
Hi mattlach, Have a look at /etc/cron.daily/google-chrome This is installed when Chrome is installed. It runs once a day and resets the entry in google-chrome.list if it is not what it expects to find. The entry at /etc/cron.daily/google-chrome is a symlink to /opt/google/chrome/cron/google-chrome. ...

Re: How Did I Create This Shortcut?
Hi White Phoenix,
I can get this with copy/paste. I copy a folder and then paste it into the "Desktop" folder in my Home folder. It shows up on the desktop and it is not a symlink.

Hi xenopeek,
Thanks for the reply.
Did someone split this post off to a new subject? I only ask because this post was a reply in another thread.

Re: Opera and Firejail
Hi invfor, What version of firejail are you using? Later versions include a profile for Opera in /etc/firejail. If that profile is missing you might want to install the latest version (0.9.38) from the firejail site. I don't have Opera installed so I can't say if it works or not. It may be helpful t...

Ubuntu 16.04, Linux Mint 18; can I still use upstart?
2 questions: Will Ubuntu continue to maintain upstart, given the switch to systemd? Can you switch out systemd for upstart after installing LM 18? I have been using systemd on Debian (tracking testing) for +/- 2 years and it is not the monster some claim it to be. Most of the objections I have read ...

Hi WHVW,
In Firefox: Menu -> Edit -> Preferences -> Security tab disable "Block reported attack sites" and if that doesn't do it disable "Block reported web forgeries" as well.

Re: How To Backup App full with their depedency?
Hi vikar, Assuming that your computer at work and at home are at the same level (same OS, same version) you could do it this way: When you install an app or updates they are first downloaded to /var/cache/apt/archives So, before you install anything I would enter the following 2 commands in a termin...

Re: How to set Opera as the default browser?
Hi bt101, In Thunar: Right click on an object you want to open with Opera and choose "Properties". In "Open with" you should be able to set this to opera. If this doesn't stick then there is the brute force method. In your Home folder open the file ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list and chang...

Re: How to set Opera as the default browser?
Hi bt101, those two steps seem to contradict themselves The idea is not to set any browser as default from within the browser itself. I know it is confusing and sounds counter intuitive but that's how it works here. So just change browser in XFCE (Settings -> Settings Manager -> Preferred applicatio...

Re: Mint 17 Xfce Applications Menu
Hi glitchathon, is it safe to say that all of the stuff that MenuLibre did was in the xfce-applications.menu file that I deleted as well as the .desktop files in .local/shared? I've never used MenuLibre but I don't have a "/home/username/.config/menus/folder/xfce-applications.menu" so I can only ass...

Hi glitchathon,
Could tell us what you are trying to achieve by editing the application menu? Are you trying to hide an application, make a hidden application show up, change the category it appears in?

Re: Is Thunar Stable in 17.3?
Hi slumbergod,
The problem is with Thunar and glib-2.45. Here is the bug report. LM 17.3 is using version 2.40.2 (it's that old!).
So the issues you have heard about do not occur. All is well here.
As a side note I'm also running Debian tracking testing and all you've heard is true.

Re: Grub showing wrong version of Mint
Hi cottfcfan, I had the same thing and "sudo update-grub" also didn't fix it. This did: As root edit the file: /etc/grub.d/10_linux Find the line: OS="Linux Mint 17.2 ..." and change 17.2 to 17.3 and save the file. Then in a terminal enter: sudo update-grub. When done, reboot, and check the grub men...

Hi jharris1993,

They are in the hidden folder .mozilla in your home folder. You can save and restore the entire folder. It contains everything: settings, extensions, bookmarks, passwords, ...* Setting Firefox browser preferences.

Re: fsck on reboot
Hi Wheelspin, One more thing to try. Have a look at /etc/fstab. Find the entry for your boot partition. The very last number on the right needs to be a "1". If it is "0" fsck will skip checking it. If you have any other partitions you want to check, excluding "Swap", then their values should be set ...

Re: fsck on reboot
Hi Wheelspin, Have you tried sudo tune2fs -l /dev/<boot partition> ? This will show you some interesting things like "Last checked:" Should I be expecting some sort of UI (textual or graphical) during the next boot to indicate the check in progress or is it completely silent? In my experience you do...
