Re: mdm switch user

There is - at least in Mint - on the password dialog for unlocking the screen another button for switching the user, which can be used without the need of the password of the currently logged in user. Ya I know, I'm trying to get that button to show up on Arch Linux. I can only get it to work with ...

mdm switch user

Hi, I wasn't really sure where to post this so I just picked here, hopefully someone with some knowledge sees it. I'm using MDM on Arch Linux with Cinnamon and i can't for the life of me figure out how to get the lock screen to show the "switch user" button. It works fine with any other di...

Re: Trouble in Betsy

If you're not sure the vendor and model of your video device you can use these commands to check. $ lspci $ lspci -v $ lspci -v | less Alternatively you could install "hardinfo" with "sudo apt-get install hardinfo" and check in there. It will show up in your menu under Administra...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

Yes but as soon Cinnamon will be broken, it will not work anymore. Except if guys from Arch fix it. The same applies for users following testing and sid. When Testing will start rolling again, Cinnamon will probably break. I would not be surprised if Cinnamon is simply removed from Testing repo aft...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

Nice desktop with Arch. I agree that it can be a good combination but I'm also really sure that it will break soon. As soon as you will update the core libs of Gnome to the next version in fact. :? Breakages don't scare me. I followed Debian unstable for years. I expect this will be even easier. I ...

from the ground up. I hope to eventually acquire the skills to venture into something like this as well. Good luck Honestly was way easier than I thought it would be. Used a couple tutorials and tried it out on a few virtual machines before taking it to the bare metal. Definitely gotta have some ex...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

Cinnamon is much more responsive on Arch than it is on LMDE. It's ironic considering it's mints desktop. I had a little bit of lag mousing through the menu on lmde that used to annoy me, and it's instant on Arch. Probably not related to cinnamon though. I think it just does everything a little faste...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

Well guys Betsy was fun but now that everyone else has it it's kind of lost its appeal. I hope you guys all enjoy it. I decided Arch is a better fit for someone like me. Just built a custom Arch Cinnamon from the ground up. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2180212/Screenshot%20from%202015-03-20%2...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

I'm a simple person, and probably only use 5-10% of the features of Compiz, but that amounts to a lot of "productivity". Some of the features are found elsewhere, but not all. Here is what I use on a daily basis: 1) terminal transparency 2) snapping (alt left resize+snaps window to left h...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

Cinnamon has gotten better. It's still no compiz though. I'm really considering giving KDE a run. I do miss all the effects. Compiz is the reason I started using linux back in like 07. When windows was still on xp there was compiz giving linux the dopest UI you could get on a desktop. Gnome isn't ev...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

But for example if you upgrade now, you end with systemd and not the init system that was chosen for Betsy. After several update attempts I noticed the systemd influence. I concluded the original post method is no longer viable. :) I wrote it before they decided to stick with sysvinit. They both wo...

Not yet. The release of ISOs comes first.

They can always use my thread. It's resulted in at least two success stories

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

More or less. It is clear that a lot of work has been made. But for example if you upgrade now, you end with systemd and not the init system that was chosen for Betsy. And when I updated a few weeks ago, there was still some problems with packages. It was not entirely smooth. I had to apt dist-upgr...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

It should be a pretty easy upgrade now. When I did it back in November there were dependency problems with the meta packages, packages that needed to be swapped with other packages, themes that had to be manually made to work, etc. It should be smooth as butter now.

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

I don't know if anyone from the development team ever reads this thread but they should add a downgraded version of libdvdcss2 to the betsy repo. The one in jessie version 1.3.0 breaks dvd copying in brasero. Installing version 1.2.13 fixed the problem for me. I used this one http://www.deb-multimed...

Re: LMDE 2 Betsy with Cinnamon 2.4

Cinnamon always loads fast for me when i log in, logging out sometimes hangs a little bit. I'm using systemd though. with Gnome 2, I was typing my password, pushing enter, music, and desktop was here. Fast really fast. With Cinnamon, typing password and then black screen for 20/30 seconds... Sooooo...
