Re: How to compile GIMP 2.8 on Debian?

@craigevil I am going to try with siduction. It's a little unpleasant to look dumb. OK. Here I go: You give a ftp site and also a giant list with many (6?, 8?) siduction repos. I only know how to add a repo the classical way to my /etc/apt/sources.list. So, this is my question: Which one of them ha...

LMDE 201204 / Sid upgrade / GTK+ Mint themes broken?

After installing and upgrading to Sid the MintX & MintX Metal GTK+ themes don't look as expected. MintTheme.png The Greybird theme looks nice though. GreybirdTheme.png The only warning I've seen: (cinnamon-settings.py:11194): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: unity.css:20:22: Not using units is d...

Re: Packages being kept back --- why?

You can specifically ask apt to install those packages and likely see what the holdup is.

Code: Select all

apt-get install mplayer vlc vlc-nox vlc-plugin-notify vlc-plugin-pulse xchat
READ what is about to happen before pressing the 'Y' key. ;)

Re: Hyperlinks from external applications don't work

Have a look at ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
Alternatively, you could try adding a new user and see if the problem exists there as well. If not, it's some configuration for your current user.

Re: LMDE and checkinstall

Checkinstall is fine however debs built w/ checkinstall cannot be updated through your package manager because the package does not exist anywhere in a repository. What happens when the system (and maybe some dependencies) are updated? The system is updated as expected but your checkinstall package ...

There should probably be a bug report filed against Mints Thunderbird package (if not already filed).

Re: Cannot change File Access permissions

Well this forum is for Linux Mint Debian Edition and I believe that Julia is Ubuntu based. You should probably post in the correct forum.

That said, did you symlink your /home/amit/www to /var ?

Code: Select all

su
cd /var
ln -s /home/amit/www
apachectl restart

it would seem that the spell checker will not work without hunspell but once installed hunspell will remove thunderbird. Any help will appreciated! Thank you There is no Thunderbird available in Debian proper so there is no conflict. The Debian equivalent is icedove and it has no conflict with huns...

Re: HOWTO: Boot LMDE squashfs directly from HDD

Cleaned up and updated original howto for linuxmint-201108-gnome-64bit-rc.iso.
It's preferable (and easier) to use the existing /etc/grub.d/40_custom instead of creating a new one.

Update to Gnome-Shell just in---adds a Dock to the right side of the screen. Version is 3.0.1-1. The dock on the right hand side is from gnome-shell-extensions. Been running the RC of Xfce for a while now. Suddenly yesterday, every time I log in now, Chromium and Rhythmbox open automatically. My personal experience with Unetbootin is about 50%. It's just not that reliable. Another way to boot Mint Xfce from USB (or even your hard drive) is to extract the squashfs, kernel and initrd and simply point GRUB to them. This example is for booting the squashfs from hard drive using an existing G...

No, 4.8 version is not available in Debian testing repos yet. You need to wait. Alternatively, you can upgrade to sid and install xfce4.8 from experimental but it's really not ready yet. There is no xfce4-goodies package. $ apt-cache policy xfce4-goodies xfce4-goodies: Installed: (none) Candidate: ...
