Re: Use HTPC as file server

You only need linux <-> linux sharing, so NFS is the natural choice. It has been around since forever and once setup, it always works.

Re: Can't get Desktop Effects to work (IBM Thinkpad R51)

Well, the GMA950, as it's also called, is old and slow. Don't expect much of it.

To tell that you have 3D acceleration, open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

glxinfo | grep direct
If it says yes, you should be able to enable the effects. I don't use this myself, so I cant really tell you more about it.

Re: Unable to write to new Iomega external hard drive

It's probably NTFS formattet. cat /etc/mstab to be sure. NTFS is in general supported in Linux, but with some quirks. If you won't need to use the drive on any Windows machines, you should use another filesystem like ext3 or ext4. If you need Windows compatibility, but you don't have any files over ...

Re: Radeon 7500, possible to improve fullscreen performance?

I have two radeon based laptops and i think i have tried everything by now, and it really doesn't seem to be possible to do anything about it. Right i'm considering to downgrade both of them to Ubuntu 9.04 to get the old ATI driver.

Re: [Input Not Supported on Bootup]

Boot into Compatibility mode. Check you have a working network connection. Now, you open a terminal and type jockey-gtk It should search for drivers and suggest the proprietary ATI drivers. Install it and hopefully everything should be fine. You could also try out Ubuntu. It's pretty similar to Linu...

Re: Mint 9 with ASUS at5ion-i (Atom D525 & ION2) driver issu

So it all boils down to the Nvidia driver. To install the driver from the Nvidia site, you'll need a lot of other tools and kernel source installed. And updates will break your system from time to time. I wont recomment that method unless you really need to for some reason. Now, i'm new to Mint, but...

Re: Sony video camera

What software have you tried to use with the camera? What exact model do you have?

Open a terminal and type

tail -f /var/log/messages

Now, connect the camera and post whatever is output at the terminal.
Also do a

lsusb

And post the results.

Re: installinf linux mint isadora on virtual machine
