Ah I solved it in a simple and reversable way:
There is a file etc/xdg/autostart/mintupdate.desktop
and renamed the file into etc/xdg/autostart/mintupdate.desktop.original
It's acting now the way I like

Re: Disabling update-manager in LM 17.1 KDE
Sorry for the late reply, but when I run Autostart only 2 files are showing up:
1. desktop file
2. script file
There simply isn't any file or application like Update-manager which can be disabled or deleted.

Re: Disabling update-manager in LM 17.1 KDE
Don't worry....I am a long-term Ubunti/Mint-user. I only want to accomplish the updates manually and won't miss any updates
Sorry to say but I tried the tips as mentioned above. However it's not working.

(SOLVED) Disabling update-manager in LM 17.1 KDE
Hello,
I like to disable the update-manager completely at starting-up my laptop. I like a lean and clean desktop and want to check updates manually.
How can it be done in LM 17.1 KDE? Many thanks!
Greetz

Linux Mint and Snappy-packages
Perhaps in the near future Ubuntu-Desktop editions will switch over to Snappy packages. There seems to be a lot of advantages as one can read in the link below: http://www.itworld.com/article/2914850/linux/is-ubuntu-moving-away-from-deb-packages-here-is-the-complete-story.html But what are the conse...

There won't be a beta-edition...only a release candidate (RC) and after this the final release. Just wait a little longer before the RC-version will be released...within some weeks my crystal ball is telling me

Re: Linux Mint 14 "Nadia" KDE released!
Yeah! Linux Mint KDE could really become the Pardus-successor. It's as stable as could be and everything just works. I am waiting for LM 15 KDE with 3.8-kernel and KDE 4.10 as default. I only want to reïnstall once a year so I skip Nadia for now

What is the matter with Netrunner-OS?
Does anyone knows what is going on with Netrunner-OS? The homepage seems to be down for quite a while:
http://www.netrunner-os.com/
It is important...because Netrunner-OS is (like LinuxMint) participating in Blue Systems too...

Re: Mint 13KDE - anyone else have sound problems?
I had only problems with VLC and no sound. Therefore you have to install the 'VLC-plugin-pulse' from Synaptic. I am not sure we're talking about the same issue here...but installing the plug-in is usually a good thing to do.

Re: are there default firewall setting?
The whole story is actually a bit more complex. In all Debian-based systems (like Ubuntu/Mint) it is IP-tables what is the real firewall....UFW (in the terminal) and GUFW (graphical front-end) are more or less simple front-ends for accomplishing simple-tasks and changing simple firewall-rules. But o...

Re: are there default firewall setting?
The easiest thing could be installing a little package called 'gufw' from synaptic. With this little package you can manage simple firewall settings.

An additional article for using sudo for graphical applications:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo
For KDE use the command 'kdesudo' as much as possible...'sudo' only for non-graphical applications in the terminal.

Re: Is Mint Menu Compatible with LM KDE?
Why not installing the Lancelot-menu? Open Synaptic and search for 'Lancelot' widget. After installation you can select the Lancelot-widget in the taskbar.
