Re: Intallation hangs, compaq presario

PS The more I look into it, the less I like it. I'd like to have a Linux computer. But it seems notebook computers are vulnerable to Linux conversions that some desktop computers don't have. I've read there can be problems with the cooling fan failing to operate properly (I gather with desktop mode...

Re: Problem With Thinkpad Edge Keyboard?

I was experiencing a different problem, however, it was keyboard related. Keys would repeat randomly. What I found was that I had to slow the key repeat rate. I guess what I'm suggesting is for you to look at the input configuration, i.e the keyboard and see if you can alter any of the input rates o...

Re: No sound with headphones.

Click on the speaker at the bottom of your screen, click mixer at the bottom of the volume control. When the mixer opens, click settings, configure channels, add the headphones to your configured channels, click okay. Then slice the volume control all the way up.

Re: (SOLVED) Help with VirtualBox /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

Hi I know this topic is marked as solved but I didn't want to open another one very closely related. I had also done the following: sudo apt-get install dkms /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup Reboot computer when commands are completed. I get the following error now when running the "VirtualBox" command: V...

Re: Any problems with removing FireFox?

For Firefox take a look at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=57860&hilit=Firefox Kmail shouldn't cause any issues. Unless you are out of disk space why even bother? if you want to make a different browser or email client the default, just change it. You can also use sudo update-alter...

Any problems with removing FireFox?

I would like to remove FireFox and Kmail. I plan to use Synaptic with complete removal, is this going to cause any issues with the system or other programs?

Thanks, Bullitt

Re: If you think Linux is tough to install

I really didn't expect XP to work, however, I was somewhat shocked on how well Mint adapted to it's new environment. As for piracy, my brother still had and needed to use the XP product key to do the repair, so even if you move the HD to another machine you still end up verifying the product key. Th...

If you think Linux is tough to install

Recently I had the misfortune of helping my brother upgrade his computer. He had the opportunity of getting a younger computer and just wanted to swap out his hard drive from his old computer. Installed on the hard drive was XP and Mint LXDE dual boot. Once the hard drive was installed we fired up t...

Re: Help with Virtual Box

Make sure you have the appropriate linux-headers package installed, and then purge and re-install Virtualbox again for an easy way to get VBox to rebuild its kernel modules. Thanks for the info. Here's whats needed to make that happen. It took awhile, however, I found the instructions on the Virtua...

We are great then 1%

With this initiative, we intend to refute the statistics of certain press organizations that ensure that the use of GNU/Linux does not exceed 1% and has not advanced in recent years at the desktop.
