Re: problem with clock- it's slowing abaut 3-4min/hour
Yep. It is a pending hardware failure, not a software misconfiguration. I am having the same problem on LM 16 RC1 - time is completly up the wall first its late then its early and like now it says 16:11 and it is actually 16:00 and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my CMOS Battery as win 7 and...

Re: Install LMDE not moving past localising packages
I would suspect you have a problem with your downloaded .iso file. Check the MD5sum. Hi Cwsnyder, thanks for the reply :) That would have been something that I looked at - but both Cinnamon and Mate iso's exhibited the same behavior. But... redownloading just to be sure... will report back having t...

Re: force resolution onto monitor
Hi All Thanks for all the help and advise, the xrandr post did the trick. It would seem that, by simply typing xrandr into a terminal session and it displaying the resolutions available, this sorted it out. When I went back to screen settings, I have been able to set both monitors to 1680x1050. Than...

Re: force resolution onto monitor
Please try to search the forums before posting. You'll need to use xrandr, http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=117398&p=650290 gives a good explanation. Hi, thanks for the resply and rest assured I did search but unless you get the right word to search it is hard to find a repl...

[SOLVED] force resolution onto monitor
Hi All i have a 27" tv linked to my system and when in windows I can set resolution to 1680x1050 same as main monitor and it takes it. Under LM it will only go to 1024x768. How can I force Mint 14 to send it 1680x1050? Not yet installed any additional drivers, but that never made a difference b...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
@zebedeeboss What you need to know about Linux is a couple of things. Linux is not meant to be a "replacement" for Windows. It does not do the same things that Windows does. It is its own Operating System, and runs in it's own way. It's no different than MacOSX in that it's not designed t...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
If I simply "MUST" get something done - I boot into MEPIS - for me "IT SIMPLY WORKS" - It's stable (yes I have sat there and not needed to reboot for weeks and weeks), it's reliable, I have no problems. it's always worked - for me - I find that Windows is kinda frustrating to us...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
Interesting reading... Many good arguments on both sides of the coin. As a Linux novice I find the most difficult things to grasp are the "instruction sets"... by this I mean that you come into a forum and start to look around for the answer you seek and there are too many "assumption...

Re: Unable to Install KDE on LMDE
Try doing apt-get install kde-plasma-desktop This will give you a minimal KDE. KDE might also be broken in Debian Testing, fun things like that are why I run unstable.. Would you be so kind as to offer your repo list so that others might enjoy a bit more stability using "unstable" Boy tha...

Re: Update Pack 4 - Did I ?
OK Here we are Wed Morn April 11th (UK GMT), with repositories seemingly fully reachable again (IE no long delay and then errors appearing)
and still it says I am up to date but showing as pack 2 not pack 4 ??
Very odd
Zeb

Re: Update Pack 4 - Did I ?
Hi ZeroZero All that has been done - on closer checking it would appear not all repo's are being reached, so I tried changing the server location and it's the same result. I will therefore wait a few days... system is working, manual install of Mate and Cinnamon all worked fine, everything else fine...
