Re: Can't Remove Firefox?
Before you do this you must do two things. First run sudo aptitude update then run sudo aptitude keep-all ... . That doesn't help, I'm afraid. Firefox seems to be immortal in LM 8 :x I don't want to have Firefox on my computer. Why? It's just a matter of principle. The computer is mine . And it's u...

Re: Opera install altered on Mint, official response from Op
I was interested in your suggestion about the ubuntu opera version so I tried it out for myself. On LMDE, installing the ubuntu version did seem to have a positive effect, not a huge improvement but enough to notice anyway. So then I tried it on Mint 10 and the results were awful, pages were taking...

Re: Opera install altered on Mint, official response from Op
Ubuntu also customizes Firefox with its "ubufox" package, but I dunno about Opera... Ubuntu allows users to remove Firefox. because this is the Mint devs main source of income... Today I cannot remove Firefox. Which source of income will be tomorrow? An impossibility to install any non-Mo...

Re: Opera install altered on Mint, official response from Op
Like was said before that doesn't make any difference as the alterations are not done by the packaging but post install of any opera package by mint scripts! I tried the two versions 10 days ago. I don't deny that the situation can possibly be different now. Still I'm not eager to try anything, bei...

Re: Can't Remove Firefox?
We seem to be compelled to use the Mozilla soft.
Is this the freedom which "came from elegance"?
I look forward to read the Linux Mint developers' reply.

Re: Can't Remove Firefox?
I also cannot possibly remove it!
(LM 8 Main Edition)
Synaptic tries to download and install Sun Java packages, iceape browser and SeaMonkey browser instead of removing Firefox!
I'm astonished. That's not fair.

Re: Opera install altered on Mint, official response from Op
I recommend to download Opera 10.63 not for Mint but for Ubuntu. The Mint version is not good, I'm afraid. I use Mint 8 (Main Edition). I installed Opera 10.63 for Mint, but it was hanging constantly. So I deleted it and took the version for Ubuntu. It has been working well. (Now I'm using it too, a...

Re: Kernel panic or something?
Weird. I have used Mint LXDE for hours without a single crash. Yes, it's weird. I thought it was some problem with my hardware, but Ubuntu 10.04 and old Linux Mint 5 Fluxbox work perfectly on my computer. The checksum of the downloaded LXDE 9 *.ISO is OK, and the image has been written to a CD corr...

Kernel panic or something?
I'm afraid I cannot use Linux Mint 9 LXDE. Each 20 or 30 minutes the LXDE Edition crashes. Suddenly a black screen appears, then I see a glimpse of a message on it for a second. Something like this: "Loading the kernel modules..." "Loading CUPS..." Then everything dissapears quic...

Re: linux mint 9 problem (urgent)
Was 8 working well? Can you just re-install it? Only 1 time. Then you'll be able to download 9, check md5 (!!!) and burn a CD out of the ISO. The installation of 9 will be the 2nd time. Totally, 2 times. Besides, you'll see whether 9 works well on your computer and its installation is reasonable. If...

Re: linux mint 9 problem (urgent)
Maybe, the easiest way out is to evacuate your data to a pendrive and try to re-install 8. So that you could be able to download and burn the 9's ISO.
