Got it, thanks for the link. I'm on Ulyana/20 right now but hope to update soon and could re-test then. FWIW, I originally encountered the issue with video (.mp4) files I had backed up from my Android phone - that shouldn't make any difference, but just to be clear.
Thanks again.

Caja "Make Link" Bug - Post Where?
Hi, believe I've discovered a bug in caja for the Make Link function. If I select a file and right click to chose "Make Link" it creates the link fine - but it also updates the original file's date and timestamp to the current (link creation) time. If I complete a similar action from the c...

LMDE3 to LMDE4 Upgrade - Can I stay with MATE?
LMDE3 MATE currently running on EeePC 1000HA – I would like to upgrade to LMDE4. Can I stay with MATE via the upgrade (done per https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2475) or will I need to switch to Cinnamon? If must switch, how/when?

Latest MintUpdate for Firefox Rev Up/Base Down?
Toolbar notification said there were updates to apply, so opened MintUpdate and was puzzled by the Firefox "new version" entry.
Presume this is simply a typo-style mistake... the new version *is* compatible with LMDE2, right (linuxmint1 vs. linuxmint2)?- Sat Apr 15, 2017 2:37 pm

How risky is this? Updating GTK+ version 3.14 to 3.22
I use the Homebank application for home finances management. The Debian package always lags significantly so I typically make and install newest versions locally. The latest version installation fails at the .configure stage with the error Requested 'gtk+-3.0 >= 3.16' but version of GTK+ is 3.14.5 M...

Re: Macbook pro doesn't suspend when I close the lid
Currently investigating installing Mint LMDE on my wife's dead-ended w/Snow Leopard MACBOOK (13-INCH MID 2007). Came upon your thread in researching this. So I don't yet have experience proving this works, but check out http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=109308 where they talk about m...

Re: timer-applet
Just for others looking for a solution to this. I was also seeking timer-applet for a new install today of LMDE/MATE and found this thread. My solution was to install the alarm-clock package which covers both the timer and alarm functions, in a different but workable way. It is not an "applet&q...

Re: How to hibernate Linux Mint LMDE XFCE & GNOME
Just worked great for me on LMDE/Mate 201204, thanks! Only issue was that the combined command line: sudo update-initramfs -u && update-grub did not execute update-grub as root/sudo (error returned), so I had to enter a separate sudo update-grub to complete the action as root. Also, note ged...

Re: HOWTO: suspend/hibernate kernel 3.0.0-1
Thanks for the post, making the UUID match my swap partition worked for me on my EeePC 1000HA. For those following, please note in step 1 the correct directory (on my new LMDE Mate 201204 installation) is not /etc/initramfstools/ but rather /etc/initramfs-tools/ . So the correct file to check/edit i...

Re: Linux Mint 10 has problem with UPS system
Installing (and configuring) PowerPanel alone seemed to do the trick for me. LM11 seemed to know the UPS was there before (as it provided power settings options not otherwise seen for when to shutdown on UPS, etc.) but was confused about what to do if there was a power glitch, which my laser printer...

Re: Linux Mint 10 has problem with UPS system
I've run into the same shutdown issue. I had not installed the Cyber Power software before, but I have now. I'm not sure whether this will be the only action required. Can you please share what you did to fix this?

Re: How To Remove Linux Mint Custom Google Search in Firefox
Well I found this thread because I recently installed Mint 11 (which I'm loving by the way!) and ran up against the Mint custom search again. I do want to support Mint but I find the custom search returns different/fewer relevant results than default google. So here's my suggestion: why not create a...

Thanks and sorry - this is one of the few times I didn't read the Release Notes through, so of course my issue is in there.

Did you verify the MD5 hash of your downloaded installation DVD image, before burning the DVD?
I'd want to eliminate the "bad ISO" possibilities first, were it me.

(Solved)11 RC Installer Didn't Allow Custom Mount Point Name
Did a fresh install update from LM9 to 11 RC today. Went very smoothly (esp. given MintBackup's ability to save installed SW list and use that for the new installation). Running well, like the look too. One issue I ran into was that I could not specify custom mount point names in the installer. I di...

Separate /home: what dotfiles to remove for fresh install?
Hi, I moved to LM9 a short while ago from Ubunutu 8.04 and have been experiencing full machine lock-ups frequently enough that I'd like to do a reinstall. Having used Ubuntu for years, I know this is unusual and am hoping that the reinstall will get me back to rock solid stability. I've had a separa...
