PulseAudio fubar again
Hi, When using Firefox 51.0.1 64 bit on Linux 4.4.0-45-generic x86_64 Ubuntu PulseAudio goes fubar. All sound is dead. No sound device is recognized anymore. Error messages include: VLC media player 2.2.2 Weatherwax (revision 2.2.2-0-g6259d80) [0000000000d3a808] pulse audio output error: PulseAudio ...

Re: LMDE 2, so far so good!
Yep, so far it is excellent. I grew tired of waiting for the upgrade instructions. Thus, I installed from the Live-DVD, keeping the old home directory. Of course it required re-installing all additional programs and re-setting a few things. But, it was worth it. Everything works out of the box and i...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin
Nope!
I m extremely happy with the way it is and runs. I could not be happier.
And LMDE with Cinnamon made three people I know switch to linux.
Just looking at a Live-DVD/stick, being intrigued to play with it, then wanting it.

Re: [solved] VPN dead, etc.
One of the 2 or 3 updates on "debian-system-adjustments" fixed the VPN problem.

[solved] VPN dead, etc.
Hi, VPN connections do not work anymore. That would have been nice to learn beforehand. Will it be fixed? Also, no mentioning in the notes that HAL isn't supported anymore. Luckily someone discovered that before I did and posted a solution in the blog comments. If you call purging HAL a solution tha...

Re: LMDE Update Pack 7 - when?
Hi, UP7 whenever it is ready! For months I have not posted anything. Why? Because LMDE UP6 is running perfectly. And isn't that what most people want? Thanks to hardware related issues I had problems at the beginning in 2010. Thanks for the patience of all helpers here! I did my fair share of breaki...

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
To all developers, coders, testers, helpers, translators, and everyone else working on Linuxmint: A huge Thank You! Linuxmint now runs for months without a single problem. Update pack 6 installed without a flaw. In the decades I am using computers, and with quite a few distros tested, I do not recal...

Re: fancontrol - pwmconfig
Hi, fancontrol does not work for me (Thinkpad T410s) either. AFAIK, you could check two things: There is a package called lm-sensors. If you install this, maybe it detects sensors. The next step could be installing a program called thinkfan. It is written for Thinkpads, but other laptops supposedly ...

Re: Why do you use Cinnamon?
Like bimsebasse, I experience Cinnamon as the fastest of the three desktop managers (Gnome3, Mate, Cinnamon). The mix of eye candy, usability and stability (!) is amazing. On my hardware there are no crashes whatsoever and after changing the sound card everything works brilliantly. Granted, I am nei...

Re: Sound, Sound, my kingdom for a sound!!!
Hi Curtrey, What I believe cwsnyder wanted you to do, is delete ("move to trash) your pulse user profile. Upon reboot pulseaudio will create a new - hopefully functioning - one. So, just open a file browser like nautilus, click on your "home" folder, hit ctrl+h to view hidden files an...

Re: Strange issue with LMDE and Skype
Hi mark1mint,
You are not alone. I got the same problem with Skype and read about it elsewhere too.
A failing internet connection caused the problem on my machine.
Fortunately, that is rare. But a hard reset is all I can do then.

Re: Speakers go mute - bug
This is a bug, and neither a new one, nor rare. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/761171 http://www.spinics.net/linux/fedora/alsa-user/msg11219.html It was assigned to the "genial" developer of pulseaudio, Mr. Lennart Poettering: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?...

Re: pulseaudio needs to go
Please, please, please. I went to the "Perfect PulseAudio Setup": http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PerfectSetup and spent another couple of hours setting up pulseaudio. It is a (very bad) joke. Lets see, one is supposed to configure audio programs, vid...

Re: pulseaudio needs to go
In case another reason to NOT integrate pulseaudio into cinnamon is needed: Today I did a re-install of the pulseaudio package, because some people were lucky, and that solved their audio problems. In my case, it broke my whole system. No more x-session. Nada. Dead. The error message was something l...

pulseaudio needs to go
Hi, There are numerous threads about how and why pulseaudio sucks (pardon my French). I am struggling with audio issues for many months. My speakers go mute for no reason. I have spent endless hours searching for a solution. I did re-installs, deleted and removed programs and parts, this has been a ...

Re: scratchy sound in Skype
Hi, Yep, I had that too. The "usual suspects" are: In Skype Options --> Sound Devices --> un-check "Allow Skype to automatically adjust mixer levels" In Sound & Video --> Volume Control --> Recording --> make sure "Digital" is muted or down to zero Good luck!

Re: No system audio (lmde + cinnamon)
The login sound wasn't installed on my machine initially.
You can grab a package that does that, it is a
libcanberra, if I remember correctly.
Also, check in pulseaudio -> sound effects,
whether they are muted or the volume is set too low.
