Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!
Mintly chaos on my ASUS laptop. After I reported - above - that MATE did and does very well on my main (P2)desktop, I installed it on my (P2)laptop, and initially, it went very well. But after a while, the icons in the menu disappeared and programs, like Firefox, wouldn't start up (yes, it did start...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!
After having experienced the GNOME-stuff and found a nice way out with MATE, I feel myself (again) very pleased with this version. I should not be considered a RC though, that sets expectations too high. Once you log out and log back in with MATE checked, you'll find yourself in your comfy yesterday...

Re: Katya suddenly slows down my wired USB-mouse...
The laptop is a ASUS Pro70SV-7S065C with only 5x 2.0 USB ports, nor 1.1 neither 3.0 USB ports.
I'm considering a bluetooth mouse, but it seems there are models that are not well supported by ubuntu-based OS'es. Has anyone any experience?

Katya suddenly slows down my wired USB-mouse...
Never since I work with a pc, I experienced sudden slowing down of my mouse. I have a very ordinary wired USB mouse that works with every OS and on every pc. Not with Katya! And no solution, even login out/loging in does not good, only shutting down and restarting does, and after an undefined time p...

Re: Mint 11 RC Katya and Skype : tray icon missing
Non of the above does give stable results on 3 totally different systems here. So I decided to try to remove compiz "radically" through synaptic. On the first dinner table laptop, neither my wife nor my daughter noticed the difference but where glad that Skype worked normally - with notifi...

Eve Installer made it install and work. Problem solved. Nice addition.

Would you try PlayOnLinux and report. I'm interested, I think this program is improving fast.

Re: wine & crossover not working in mint 11
I installed Mint11 -32b- and instead of CrossOver I tried PlayOnLinux. I then installed Office 2007 and Word, Excel and PowerPoint run as should. (Don't flame this choice: I like LibreOffice better, but my wife and daughter have other taste...).

grub customizer & Katya
Grub Customizer installed rather easily in Mint9 and Mint10, but with Katya RC I got stuck. Something missing in the repository? Same errors with GnoMenu adn Elegant Gnome. I do hope for a solution.

Re: Distrowatch
Elisa, just don't miss the point: something is wrong at Distrowatch and they don't seem to mind it. Of course I know how to handle spam, but with my age, I still remember the meaning of solidarity and still apply it because I think it is better than the actual anglosaxon hyperindividuality.

Yes, I see, linguistically I mis-expressed myself by using "kind of" and I understand your confusion. Because spam is spam, yes. What I mean is: normally I get offers for viagra- and other pills, advices for my erection and happiness with girls, the stuff. And all of a sudden, I get, well,...

Re: Wireless stops working after a couple of minutes
I had the same thing with a D-link DWA-140 on a further ordinary AMDx2-system that always worked like a workhorse, especially with Mint10x46. After a short while, the connection got worser and worser and then dropped. And a work-around with Ndisrapper and windows-drivers dit not solve it. I found a ...

Distrowatch
I really don't know where to put this benign warning. SO, mod, do as you please. But please, do not act like the guy behind Distrowatch. Some time ago I noticed that, when I filled in my email address in a comment, I received a new kind of spam. I warned the community but the warning was immediately...

Re: Linux Mint 10 "Julia" released!
And again I join the happy crowd and applaud gladly. Especially Julia Gnome 64 is turning my AMDx2 work horse into a champion. NVIDIA, dualscreen, NAS, NAS-attached printers, everything runs better than Mint9. BUT, as I mentioned on DistroWatch, somethings seemed to go wrong on my EeePC 1005: when F...

Re: sound issues
Although I was sure that Mint DEB installed and worked fine, and since I heard a sound here and there, I also must report a sound problem. VLC is installed and removed and reinstalled, but nothing happened. Some other sound program worked, but gave but a faint sound, kind of background-like. Yet ano...

Re: Linux Mint Debian (201009) released!
I can't report a bug yet, everything works as should on a system with a Px2 cpu and NVIDIA gc, wired powerline internet, DualScreen[1440x900]. I live in the Flemish part of belgium, I downloaded the ISO from CologneNet, burned it slowly, and installed quite well. I still dislike GRUB2. CrossOver ins...

LXDE / UNR / GRUB
I've spent a lot of testing again, but no installing, GRUB2: not on my pc's ! I even reverted one back to Mint7. We should have the choice installing GRUB1 or GRUB2. Today I spent testing LXDE on my 1005HAB. Untill now, I'm not totally satisfied, so I don't install. There always is tit or tat. Sound...
