Re: Odd messages with Synaptic and update manager

I had removed and reinstalled it. Pretty sure that the Synaptic showed it being there and installed. But will check later to be sure. Just seemed odd seeing the message like that.

Odd messages with Synaptic and update manager

I installed Enigmail. Had to remove and reinstall that and the Gnupgp. When I did that I lost apt and some other stuff. Used Aptitude and got apt badk. Reinstalled things that had been removed. Encryption works good as far as I can tell. However I'm getting this message when doing a reload packages ...

Ring

Has anyone tried this before and if so is it any good? Supposed to take place of Skype. Looks very interesting. Will post both sites. https://ring.cx/en https://www.linux.com/learn/why-and-how-use-ring-instead-skype-linux I was in my testing side of Debian. It's listed in the repos. Stable doesn't h...

Re: Reseting Bios

That had to suck. Glad you were able to figure out what was going on with that Windows booting constantly like that. I'm glad I got rid of Windows. Now that I had given back my company laptop I don't ahve any Windows system to come into the house. :D
Just not needed.

Re: Mint 18 - connection lost

When I first tried LMDE after they went stable I had same issue basically. Only it saw my wifi for about two minutes. Was able to get on but not later. Got peed and tossed on an old version of Wheezy then later Mint. So just this weekend I installed LMDE2 Betsy Mate just for hell of it to see what w...

Re: Reseting Bios

I forgot what forum I was reading that in. I was researching the issue I was having when I came across that bit about someone being told in Win 8.1 to go to their start button and pull up something and go into bios to reset something. Couldn't believe it. So got to wondering if something like that w...

Re: Virtual box location

On my Debian Pc at the moment so don't exactly know what it's called in the applications but it's not Virtual Box. When doing the install from the terminal I told it to install Virtual box, guest addon's etc. Went back to the Synaptic and double checked that they were installed. After going back to ...

Reseting Bios

I've got a question for you on bios settings and Mint. I've read in some forums on bios where Windows 8 or 8.1 has a setting where you can adjust the bios from there. Is that something that is done here also? Reason for this is I was testing some Live DVD's one night. One booted right up. One booted...

Re: Can't edit bash.bashrc... it's Read Only

Thanks for this post. I've been looking all over for getting into root .bashrc. Greatly appreciate this poste. Now will save instructions so can edit my regular and root. Need to create some aliases for updates etc. I tend to fat finger at times and aliases are a big help in avoiding a lot of that. :D

Re: Getting Started with Mint

Nukeman444 The reason everyone is suggesting that you get Mint's XFCE is because it's what we'd call a lightweight DE compared to the other DE's of Mint and might be a better choice to work on your system than Cinnamon, KDE, Mate or what have you. I myself run XFCE. It's nice and I run that DE no ma...

Re: Security Tutorials

Mike, you keep showing Amor a lot in some of your code shots. With the PGP tools in Enigmail will those do the same thing? Package manger when going there makes look like it does. So got to wondering about if installing from there would do any more for Enigmail or no. My curiosity on security is get...

Re: Security Tutorials

Too bad we can't use Linux to file the tax forms. But can see the point of the security bit. Got to get Mint's side fixed up also. What about Gmail? I've heard various stories on this and Gmail. Some say you can and others says you can't. you might read the threads on eMail clients -- https:...

Re: Security Tutorials

Mike. You keep mentioning to make sure when download that you get version gpg2. What if you already have TB fixed up in another distro with gpg/engimail? For instance I already do. Did in with Debian awhile back in testing. It's 1.4.20. All setup already. Now I'm going to be doing this setup in Mint...

Re: Linux Mint Forums Back After Double Attack

Well, that didn't take very long. I got a notice from my ID monitor that my email address (and username associated only with this list) is for sale on the dark web. SpamAssassin is gonna be busy. I too was told my email address associated with the username here was for sale on the dark web. I had a...

Re: SFTP sharing

Thanks everyone. I'm in now. Last frigging time I'll ever believe what Synaptic tells me. Decided to try one more time. Opened Root Terminal and did this: Code: apt-get install openssh-server Code: Sucker flew like a bat out of hell installing. WHAT???? Freaking Synaptic showed all of that installed...

Re: SFTP sharing

It looks like I can't help you. SSH is fairly easy to set up in Linux so the only guess I have at this point is: ** You don't have ssh installed ** There is no such host with 192.168.0.100 as it's ip address. ** There is a host with that ip address but it's in a different subnet. ** You aren't titl...
