Re: Boot fails periodically

Code: Select all

/dev/sda2      101457440 6840800  89440116   8% /

(/dev/sda1 is Windows)

If it helps at all, my / partition was a lot smaller (10GB if I recall correctly) before I installed the new HD. After I cloned the drive I resized the partition.

Boot fails periodically

Hello all, I'm running Mint 16 KDE and I'm occasionally having problems booting up. When the system boots successfully it works fine, but sometimes it gets partway through the boot sequence and then just throws up a whole bunch of error messages on the screen (see images). I initially suspected an a...

Re: Update ruined GRUB, can't seem to fix

This machine doesn't have Windows on it, though, that's one oddity of this MS-DOS error. There's only two partitions, a linux swap (sda1) and and ext4 (sda2).

I may just have go to back to regular Mint...alas.

Update ruined GRUB, can't seem to fix

Hello all, I stupidly ran the Mint update yesterday and now GRUB doesn't work at all anymore. I've tried three different live discs to try to repair it, and they all give various error messages. Even Rescatux can't fix it. I am able to boot up the system by bypassing the bootloader via Super Grub Di...

Re: Screen fails to initialize after xrandr switch

New data: The screen only has problems after the system has been put into suspend at least once. After bootup xrandr still works fine, but if the system has been suspended it has this problem.

Screen fails to initialize after xrandr switch

Hi all, I've been using the following xrandr commands to switch between my laptop and external screens: xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto xrandr --output VGA1 --off (and vice-versa) This worked fine until a recent software update. Since the update, if I run the commands the configuration is switched, and...

Multiple monitor control from command line

Hello all, I've had great success connecting my external monitor to my netbook so that I can use a full-size display, but the setup is currently somewhat inconvenient in its current form. I often have to switch back to the built-in display to take the computer elsewhere, and to do that requires goin...

Monitor does not reactivate after suspend

With my CD drive problem solved, LMDE and I are probably in it together for the long term, but there's one other problem I'd like to see corrected. Sometimes (but not always) when I bring the machine out of standby, the laptop monitor does not reactivate. The system itself is still running perfectly...

Re: External drive no longer works if disconnected

Here's something potentially interesting: I just discovered that if I boot up without the drive connected, it does not even have an entry in mtab! That may be to be expected for all I know (I don't know much about mtab), but it struck me as potentially important. The drive is a DVD-ROM drive, so it ...

Re: External drive no longer works if disconnected

I added myself to plugdev, rebooted, and plugged in the drive but that didn't fix it, unfortunately. Here is the relevant line from fstab: /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user, noauto 0 0 And here from mtab: /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom0 udf ro,noexec, nosuid, nodev, user=plantperson 0 0 I don't even need ...

Re: External drive no longer works if disconnected

But is there any way to correct the malfunction when it happens? As I stated before, if the drive isn't connected during boot doesn't work either. And though DVDs do mount correctly and can be displayed as directories when the drive is malfunctioning, I have yet to find any program willing to play t...

Re: External drive no longer works if disconnected

I've done some more experimentation. If I remove the drive after first using the "Safely Remove Drive" option, I can reattach it and it will still work. However, if I remove it without "Safely Removing" it, it no longer works correctly when reconnected. However, the disc is still...

External drive no longer works if disconnected [SOLVED]

Hello all, I've just installed Linux Mint DE after being a loyal vanilla Debian user for over a year (Lenny) and I'm having some problems with my external CD drive. I'm using a netbook, so I can only access discs via a USB-connected external drives. Under my old Debian install, and the Ubuntu-EEE in...
