Re: LMDE FAQ
If you pay through PayPal, which appears to be one of the options, it should automagically convert your payment to USD before charging your account. One of the nice things about using PayPal
That should solve one of your problems for you.

Re: Webpages load much slower on Linux than Windows
I finally had the time to sit down and work on this again. In my Arch install, since that's the one I use mostly for testing/breaking things, I've tried disabling IPv6 on boot following the instructions here . From a fresh boot, I tried access the same series of websites I used in my testing last we...

Re: Webpages load much slower on Linux than Windows
Each Linux system is currently running a different version of the kernel. Today LMDE is on 3.2.15 and Arch is on 3.3.3, on the weekend when I ran my tests Arch was on 3.3.2. There doesn't appear to be an improvement in the internet speeds on Arch since the upgrade. I have been experiencing this sinc...

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12
craigevil, I can't help but comment on the disconnect between what you just said in your post and the quote in your signature. Given the sentiment in your signature, I'd have thought you would encourage the use of the mozilla.debian.net repos. To actually contribute productively to the conversation,...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)
But, what is the point of that? Is that a Mint or Gnome3 'feature' I don't like it at all. Is that supposed to be intuitive because I don't see it. To repeat what proxima_centauri said, this is 100% a part of Gnome3. The Mint team doesn't touch the Gnome3 packages coming out of the Debian repos. Th...

Webpages load much slower on Linux than Windows
For about a month now I've been experiencing very slow loading time for webpages on my both my Linux installs (LMDE tracking testing and Arch). But, my Windows XP install on the same machine loads pages much faster. First, a little background: - I've had the same LMDE install for almost a year and a...

Re: Grub Boot Loader
Another method I was trying was to fix it using my Live-CD but I didn't know what I was doing. I had fixed my issue with the above website, but still curious I found this how-to from Ubuntu and from the looks of it the method(s) can be applied (if not I apologize I am a noob) https://help.ubuntu.co...

Re: LMDE blog post.
But as I said, from my point of view although I have nothing against Cinnamon and would happily use it if gnome-shell didn't exist, I still find it (and any other desktop that you care to name) inferior to my customized shell. I then go on to reason that as Mint is not likely to be supporting my DE...

Re: Safe to add pure-Debian repos? squeeze? wheezy? sid?
LMDE is not debian testing. Perhaps your LMDE is not Debian testing, but my LMDE has been successfully pointing directly at Debian testing for over a year now. I had not seen the instability and breakages as a serious enough issue, more of a non-issue in my opinion, to start using the update packs ...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)
All of our understanding of computers, everything from our RFC's down to the HIG's, have been thrown down in an attempt to match competitors in the mobile workspace. Perhaps the existing HIGs are being ignored because they were out-dated and no longer provided what we wanted. I have been using comp...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information
But when I opened Softwares Sources (in synaptic & update manager) appears only three sources ,it's missing deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import ,but if I taste "gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" in Terminal it's in that file,I mean in the sources.list(/etc/a...

Re: multi core cpu support
In the 201109 respin for LMDE, the 32 bit version defaults to a single-processor kernel. It's trivial to make it work with the multicore version. reference

Re: No updates?
So, the only, even more complicated solution (!), is the introduction of a third mint repo, for anxious lmde' ers, with frequent updates, deactivated by default. Of course, it won 't happen. Wouldn't that be the Debain Testing repo? Which users are free to use in LMDE and Clem even endorsed as an a...

Re: Xserver-Xorg
It looks like you still have the libpixman packages which come with LMDE, ported from Ubuntu, installed. At this point, those packages are somewhat outdated and newer Xorgs require newer versions of this library, which should be in the Debian Sid repos. If you could post the contents of your /etc/ap...

Re: Debian testing freeze
The short answer is yes. For a longer answer, when LMDE was first introduced (and it was still pointed directly at the Debian testing repos instead of using the Update Packs), testing was frozen in preparation for the squeeze release. The first two ISOs (201009 and 201012/201101) were released durin...

Re: XFCE or GNOME--what is the difference?
I've played around with the GNOME session in MintPPC and it seems a bit more "Mac-like" in the layout than LXDE, so I was leaning to GNOME, but then since it didn't just load up I've had time to re-think it and give some thought to XFCE--what would be the major differences between the two...

It looks like the Nvidia kernel module isn't loading on boot. You could try to rebuild it using the procedure I posted here.

I then updated my system like zerozero suggested (output is below) and then restarted my computer. After that I only get a text based log-in. I have restarted my computer several times and this keeps happening. Any advice here? There is an issue with dkms in the recent upgrades of the Nvidia driver...

Re: LMDE code/bug-fixes/patches to Debian
With LMDE's update packs, Mint's devs fix things in Debian's Testing repos and 'cushion' the upgrades against nasty surprises. I could be wrong about this, but my understanding of the update packs is that the Mint team simply mirrors the Debian repo without making any changes to the binaries. This ...

Re: debian upgrade frequency
snodgrss, to answer your kernel upgrade question, I have been running LMDE since January 2011 and have gone through many kernel upgrades on the same install (2.6.32, 2.6.38, 2.6.39, 3.0, and 3.1 and a brief period where I tracked the Liquorix kernels) and have never had a problem with instability af...
