Fitbit Zip with Mint?
Hi guys, I really hope someone can help me. I bought a Fitbit Zip the other day and have since found out that in order to set it up, I have to be using Windows or Mac. I have read that some people have managed to connect it natively with Linux. I have scoured many different forums and even tried run...

Re: Gaming with VM
I've tried but I can't even install XP; I just keep getting the blue screen of death when trying to install. I disabled all my bios options (set to default) and installed then enabled them all again - Mint works fine but the XP partition won't boot so I'm not even considering that as an option. I am...

Gaming with VM
Hi Guys I just wondered if anyone can help me. I've tried several games that I have on Steam from my Windows days under Wine and some of them won't work due to Games For Windows Live not working under Wine so I was thinking of installing Windows XP in Virtualbox and playing these few games through t...

Chromebook or not?
Hi Guys Can someone please offer some advice. I am about to start a course through the Open University and want a laptop/netbook to write my assignments and so on. I have seen the new Google Chromebooks advertised and I don't know whether to buy one on or a laptop such as an Asus Aspire. Can anyone ...

Personalised Distro
Hi guys I didn't know where to post this question, so apologies if this is the wrong place. I am looking to make my own distro based off Mint Maya; I basically want all the packages I normally install after a clean install, my own theme, fonts, mouse pointer, preferences and so on. I have used remas...

Re: Little black blocks on top left
I've tried it with both and the same thing happens. I also use crossover but I haven't tried it on LMDE as I thought it had to use the latest version of Wine. Do you know which version it installs?

Little black blocks on top left
Hi guys Can anyone help? I have an Nvidia 8400 GS graphics card and when I install the proprietary Nvidia drivers all goes well until I reboot and then I get little black dots/blocks in the top left corner. I have tried changing the X11 settings and they just won't go away. Can someone please, pleas...

Need a better graphics card
Hi everyone. I hope somebody can help me I am looking for a better graphics card than the one I have at present (Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS). I don't want to spend too much but I'm looking for something a little beefier that works well (preferably perfectly) on Linux Mint 13 MATE. Can anyone suggest one...

Re: Everything else works except my headphones!
Hi, sorry for not replying sooner; I didn't know that anyone had replied to this. I am using a 3.5mm jack connector. There is a microphone and headphone socket on the front of my pc. Under mint 12, if I plug in the headphones, I can hear through them without having to adjust anything but under LMDE,...

Everything else works except my headphones!
Hi everyone I am running LMDE update pack 4. Everything is fully up to date, my microphone, webcam and everything else works. The only thing that doesn't is my heaphone socket; when I plug my headphones in - nothing, I have checked all the sound/mixer properties and cannot find a way to enable my he...

Re: Unable to play mp3 in banshee, nor totem
This is usually due to the mp3 codec being missing. Try running banshee from a terminal and when you try to play an mp3 it should display an error in the terminal window. It'll probably be that gstreamer plugins are missing, if so you can fix it by installing gstreamer-plugins-good, gstreamer-plugin...

Re: Best Identi.ca client for gnome
Hi Thanks for your help, I think Gwibber is the answer then. The reason I want to get rid of Facebook is because of the security/privacy issues, for example if you post a picture to Facebook, Facebook claim the copyright to it (in the T's & C's) also there are far too many malware apps that peop...

Best Identi.ca client for gnome
Hi Guys I am in the process of de-Facebooking myself and I am moving to identi.ca but I don't know what is the best client for me to use. I am looking for a client that integrates well with gnome as I am using Linux Mint 11 Gnome (main) edition. All I really want is a client that will sit up in the ...

Re: Brother DCP-120C Printer in 64 Bit Debian Edition
Hi autocrosser Thanks for the reply, I've already tried the brother installation method and although the printer will show up, I can't actually print to it, I have tried several times now but I am no nearer to getting it to print, it is so annoying because I love mint and LMDE, I just can't get my p...

Brother DCP-120C Printer in 64 Bit Debian Edition
Hi Guys I'm a complete newcomer to LMDE but have used Ubuntu for quite a number of years along with other distos such as Mint and Pinguyos, I've even used Arch although I found it to be a bit too much as it took 2 days to install and configure graphics card driver. I prefer things to 'just work' and...
