Re: Desktop Linux less stable than OSX,.. and Windows?!
I agree on that list not being very 'true', helpfull and rather one sided. As i stated before, the things in the list are not really my problem, just a somehwhat related discussion. As for 'Tweak' perhaps i should clarify, i am talking about Minor GUI based (not even any CLI stuff) with the menus or...

Desktop Linux less stable than OSX,.. and Windows?!
Preface: I am not trolling! I have been using Linux daily at home for 10 years now averaging maybe 2 hours a day during that whole time period. Before that a LOT of windows. I work as an editor for a few months now and as helpdesk guy so during working hours i work a lot with OSX and Win. I love Lin...

Re: Java Plug in & Firefox crashes, Advice..?
Hey Telenux, 1. This is what i did and it worked (beyond that, no clue!) Go to this video: http://www.youtube.com/user/theyoungturks?blend=1&ob=4 Right click on the actual video itself, select settings (third from bottom on roll down menu) and a new small menu should pop up with a box to (un)tic...

Re: Java Plug in & Firefox crashes, Advice..?
Thanks for reply! I am amazed nobody else has weighed in or perhaps even presented a solution. I imagine quite a few Linux (not just Mint) users have this issue. It is pretty serious/"bad marketing" since Win and OSX don't seem to suffer from it or waaaay less... Anyway, just crossposted o...

Java Plug in & Firefox crashes, Advice..?
Hi, I have been using Linux for a loooong time now. All kinds of distros. Not that i know that much about Linux unfortunately. Pretty much across the board i have always encountered a lot of crashes with both Java Plug in and the Firefox browser itself. Both just seem really unstable for some reason...

System Monitor: How to make priority / Nice permanent?
Hi everyone, In the System Monitor menu i can change i can right click and change priority/nice value. I always do this to play the Java based game Minecraft. I will just give it a -20 value so it runs the best since i don't multi task while playing. However it is a PITA to have to go into that menu...

Re: Laptop volume too loud, both PCM and Master go up
Turns out i seemed to have (partially) solved it myself. :) In the sound preferences menu (you get it when you left click the speaker icon on lower right) the fifth/last tab is entitled 'applications'. Turns out i can set the (max) volume for my music player app and Firefox browser there. Interestin...

Re: Sansa Clip Mp3 Player, mint doesn't see it..?
Yaaaaaaay! ;) It works! You guys were right. Had to be set to MSC. I guess i never thought of that super simple solution since under PcLinuxOs it worked with the MTP settings. Marking this SOLVED. Thanks both of you a lot! So nice to get a quick reply that solved this problem. Not being able to use ...

SOLVED: Sandisk Clip Mp3 Player, mint doesn't see it..?
I tried dmesg in the CLI before plugging in the Mp3 player and after (i think..!). Sorry for the long output below but i am not sure which bits are relevant, i am guessing the last 7 lines or so. Anybody have any idea why it won't be visible/mount and how to fix it? I searched the forums of course b...

Re: Officially removing myself from Google...
@ At Jon, I am sooooo glad someone else feels the same way i do about google. Almost always i get the one of two responses: A. Ah well, i have nothing to hide... B. But Google stuff is free and shiny and i don't feel like making the little effort to switching. I say shame on the open source communit...

Re: Laptop volume too loud, both PCM and Master go up
Hey Jason,
Thanks for tip.
But of course i tried that and also looked in the 'sound preferences' section but did not find any place where i could lock down the PCM volume... I find it very convenient to be able to use the button rather than the slider so that is why i am trying to sort this out.
Thanks for tip.

Thanks for the welcome you guys. I see you are also quite new to the forum Jesica? :) As for work life balance/away from PC time, i fortunate that i can get by on 2 days or work a week. Nevertheless though i have many interests i have been known to spend 2 days straight on my PC trying to grok certa...

Laptop volume too loud, both PCM and Master go up
On most other distros i would have the problem of my volume being too low. I far prefer this state of affairs. ;) Still it is a bit inconvenient and slightly worrying. A little above two thirds of the max is louder than i ever play it. If i go beyond half the volume accidentally i think i will pop m...

10 years on Linux, now switched to Mint
Hello everyone, Been on linux only for about 10 years (though i have a lot! to learn/still a newbie as far as low level and most CLI things). Last five years i have always used PCLinuxOS though i would occasionally briefly try out 3 to 10 distro's in live mode. Then PCLOS latest came out... KDE4... ...
