Re: Need apt-get to fetch updated version of sextractor to i

So, how do I request that version 2.19.5 be tested? That's what I'm asking. This is probably the place to request that, but your request subject is poorly formulated and no interest was generated. You can probably test the version in Linux Mint by following this procedure, which worked for me to at...

Staying with mint, have you tried LMDE Mate? Sometimes LMDE performs better orn 32-bit machines.

First, what I know about SSH is minimal, at best. There is a tutorial on Digital Ocean on using rsync over ssh at https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-copy-files-with-rsync-over-ssh

Re: Linux Mint Debian not accepting my username and password

If you are having problems logging in to the GUI, if you switch to an alternate CLI console, either through the Ctrl-Alt-F3 (or F4, F5 or F6) key combination or recovery mode from GRUB, can you log in to the command line? The terminal will at least show you the full error messages and show if it is ...

Re: Root Login

Why never GUI as root? Many errors never show up in a GUI. Also, many warnings never show up in a GUI. Simply launch (without sudo) some of your favorite applications and watch the terminal screen to see the results, which will show that I speak truly. Do you know exactly what your application in a ...

From your response, you have the latest driver for Linux. If the scanner is not working, you will have to contact the maintainer or the printer manufacturer.

Also some Internet addresses may be blocked [u]by your ISP[/b], for example in China, sites condemned by the government. In another example, if your IP address indicates you are not from in country USA, you are blocked from some sports sites.

Re: Older chipset info request

Specific chipsets are not listed as compatible or not compatible because chipsets (especially for peripherals) change too frequently and without notice for the Kernel maintainers to have a complete list. A better question to ask is what reference design do the chipsets API emulate, then see if the A...

Re: change IP address in linux mint?

Are you talking about the Internet Protocol Address, or the IP protocol stack? Are you assuming there is a simple, one address IP Address associated with your machine? Or are you talking about the MAC address which is defined by your network interface card (a.k.a NIC)? Are you talking about the one ...

Re: Why are DE"s so GTK-centric?

Having lived through the era described, I would also like to point out that analog synthesis (the only thing available prior to microprocessor horsepower enabling individual digital synthesis) was very cumbersome and expensive! Prior to digital synthesis, think music organs rather than synthesizer. ...

Re: Slow computer and slow internet

If you went from wired connection to wireless, that can slow you down considerably, even with good signal from your wireless router. 802.11n maximum is only 75MB/s vs. 100MB/s or 1000MB/s maximum for wired Ethernet connection. Also you may experience interference from cordless phones, cell phones, a...

You don't provide your browser or habits in browsing, which can affect your browser response more than your Internet connection or your HDD partitioning. Re: Install Muffin In Mate

Muffin is listed as one of the bases for Cinnamon, not Mate. You would probably be better off installing a minimal system, then muffin on top, then installing your applications afterwards, to ensure all of the dependencies are satisfied. Don't expect all Mate applications to work with Muffin, likewi...

And using optional GTK or Qt libraries, there is OpenBox, BlackBox and the other *Box DEs, jwm, flwm, zwm, Window Maker a.k.a. wmaker, awesome, i3, ratpoison, and others. :D Also for Qt, RazorQT. OpenBox was actually the basis for LXDE, not GTK, it just pulled in some GTK base. Must not forget the a...

You should be able to install gdisk from the repositories on a boot of the Live DVD/thumb drive used to install Linux Mint and follow Gentoo's guide to creating a hybrid partition table: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Hybrid_partition_table What I don't know is if this will allow booting either OS X o...
