Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon - Can't set up HDMI

Hi there guys, I'm on Linux Mint 18, and I'm loving it, but... I'm facing a huge problem: I cannot set the hdmi. I've once changed from Mint 18 (Cinnamon and KDE) back to 17.3 due to that very same problem: I cannot understand how to set up HDMI!!! How dumb is this?! And I'm using Mint for years now...

Where... or what is MBR (multi-boot)?!

Sorry guys... but here I am again with a newbie question!!! This one is related to multi-boot, and it’s a really simple and matter-of-fact question: When people say to not to install the bootloader to MBR, what they mean? I really can’t understand this! Does the MBR locates on sda where uses to appe...

MP3 Players sometimes won't play the folders in right order!

I there again guys, Sorry to bother once more, but I’m really in a learning curve with Linux! There was always a problem with Mint that although a little thing, can be really annoying: I use mp3 player, just like anyone this days. I’m talking about the hardware not the software player. And I have so...

Re: What's the best: Mint 9 (LTS), Mint 10, or Mint 11 ?

By the way, do you think that we’ll have some new Mint Long Term Support release after Mint 9 finishes his support around 2013?

Re: What's the best: Mint 9 (LTS), Mint 10, or Mint 11 ?

I guess I'll try Mint 9 for a while. There are certain things about 10 (that are also on 11), that I like very much (for instance, being able to unninstall from the menu with just a right click on the ap, and a few more tricks). But I guess a LTS release could be a safer bet... also knowing that Min...

Re: What's the best: Mint 9 (LTS), Mint 10, or Mint 11 ?

Thanks Abertp, when I get home, I'll try to get that info on the terminal. It seams you really understand the Mint stuff… so what about the question of choosing a LTS or a latest (even depending on the machine), what would you advise for a somehow (well, being using about a year but…) newbie like me?

Re: What's the best: Mint 9 (LTS), Mint 10, or Mint 11 ?

Not sure if I understood what “output of lspci” means, but guess you’re referring to specifications of the machine. Since I’m not home right now (I’m in the office at work  ), all I can tell is that my laptop (that is at home) is a pretty new one: Acer; 8 GbRam; 640GB Hard Drive; around 1Gb...

What's the best: Mint 9 (LTS), Mint 10, or Mint 11 ?

Hi there guys, I’ve been a Mint user (and so a Linux user) more or less about an year and a few months. But I’m still in a learning curve. So there’s this situation: I’m getting tired of those little and annoying things that keep happening, like for instance, yesterday, when I updated my Mint 11, su...

Re: Low Latency Kernel and Jack pre-configured!!!

Hi there Gerd50, If it is like that, use windows with cubase, band in a box or something like that. It's easier to handle than the Jack stuff. Well, there are some reasons for me to be resolute in using Linux... and after all, I’m only in a learning curve in music production, cause I don’t use Windo...

Low Latency Kernel and Jack pre-configured!!!

Hi there people, how are you! :D Again I have a little problem in witch you may help, please. My linux distro is, no doubt about it, Mint! And I’m very happy about 11, and pretty excited about the upcoming 12. But here’s the deal: I’m a musician (or at least I’m trying to be  ). And therefo...

Re: Help!! Grub rescue

Hi daveeee2011, I once got the same problem. You just need to download a software called supergrub (google it) and then, burn it to a cd. After that, you need to reboot your pc, and choose the option to run the cd. Then you run supergrub, and simply follow the instructions: I believe the option that...

Does deja-dup backup packages?

Hi there guys, I was looking for some app that backs up the whole system. Not so much the docs, musics, videos and stuff, but a really back up of the whole system that always takes so many time to build from a fresh install (you know, we all have our fav softs). Is deja-dup the right one? If not, wh...

Re: Can you install 3 OS on the same machine?!

Dear God... I just can't do it! :? I tried everything, but the result was to always screw up the grub, and have to format the new os, and even the Mint, cause it didn't recognize any os after I installed the second Linux (PclinuxOs or Opensuse). I somehow always manage to save the windows due to "su...

Re: Can you install 3 OS on the same machine?!

Jesus... I'm really numb at this!!!
The /dev/sda5 is the place were I was thinking to install Opensuse, it is empty.
Do I need to format it to an especific way?
If I shrink the Mint Partiion it will work to install Suse on Sda5?

Eh, Eh, Eh... sorry, and thanks in advance!!!
