Re: How To: Upgrade your kernel, painlessly.

I used this method again this morning to update to 3.12.10, no problems again.

Re: How To: Upgrade your kernel, painlessly.

Just used the method described in the first post and it worked perfectly to update the kernel to 3.12.9 in Mint 16 Cinnamon.

Re: How to get new nVidia drivers in "Driver manager"

The X-Swat PPA method worked great and got me up to 331.20 with no fuss. Thanks for that tip!

Re: Installing NVIDIA drivers?

Add this PPA to you software sources, once you do that it'll find 331.20 and install them right from the package manager
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Click on the "read about installing" link for instructions on how to properly adding the PPA to your source list.

Re: Install Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMint UPDATED

I posted that image above right after installing the drivers, but unfortunately when I restarted the system things went to hell. I ended up in an endless loop of Cinnamon crashing, so in the end this method completely hosed my Mint install. Luckily I created a system image before attempting the NVID...

Re: Install Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMint UPDATED

Yea, that shows 331.38 being used, was just a little concerned that it didn't show anything in driver manager.
Thanks!

Re: installing asus bios fix

You can flash the BIOS on that laptop directly from the BIOS. Read the manual that came with the laptop, in particalr beginning with page A14. Everything you need to know is there. If you dot have the manual then download it rom the ASUS site.

Go for the updates and change the file, I'm sure it'll work for you. My system is fully updated and applying your fix worked wonders.

Thanks again!

Re: Slow Internet Mint 9

Something interesting I have found is that when you visit a site that loads things from another address such as advertising and the such, the problem is real bad. If I run across a site that loads quickly I'll find that its clean of external targets loading. Just more fuel for the fire.

Re: Slow Internet Mint 9

I've pretty much given up trying to resolve the issue. I've spent countless hours researching, reading and trying everything under the sun. The MTU change helped a slight amount but it's still hanging at the beginning and end of each site connection attempt.
