Can Mint fix what Ubuntu won't?
One last time, one last effort. Mint 15, based on Ubuntu 13.04 will not boot/install on an old Thinkpad with a PentiumM 1.7GHz notebook. Before someone mentions 'That CPU isn't PAE compliant', it IS! The bug in syslinux, which prevents loading/installing Mint 13/14/15 and has been a plaque for users...

Re: Backporting Mate 1.4 to Maya; level 3 updates mandatory?
Thanks zerozero, That's what i thought also but as the blogpost stated explictly to select only level 1 and 2 updates, i thought the new marco version perhaps wasn't ready for backporting to maya yet. However, I've installed the (backporting) updates, including the level 3 marco updates and everythi...

Backporting Mate 1.4 to Maya; level 3 updates mandatory?
Hi folks, I just tried backporting Mate 1.4 to my Maya setup. As described in the blog post on http://blog.linuxmint.com, I've selected only level 1 and 2 updates but when trying to install these updates, I see that also the marco file manager level 3 updates are automatically installed, even when I...

Whatś the Mint take on the FF16 security vulnerability
L.S./Hi guys
Just read about the reported (minor) Firefox 16 security vulnerability https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2012/ ... irefox-16/.
Will you guys keep (offering) FFv16 in the (buntu) repo? I see it's still being offered when I updated Maya.

Re: Linux Mint 6 x64 RC1 released!
Hi, I haven't tried Mint 6-64 yet, currently on Ubuntu 8.10-64, but why does it say on the Mint Download page; " Note that the Main Edition (which is 32bit) is usually more stable and it also supports 64bit processors. " To which regard are 64-bit editions (in general) more unstable? (I kn...

Re: Dual boot Vista Mint with Mint on an extended partition?
Hi Fedorarefugee, Thanks for the reply! I think I will proceed with the extended partition as described and if I don't like it (missing the NTFS data partition) I will just reinstall the whole shebang; shrinking the Vista partition, making /home smaller and create an NTFS data partition as you have....

Dual boot Vista Mint with Mint on an extended partition?
Hi guys, I've installed Daryna about a year ago and at that time I let Mint do the works. Now I have Vista installed and I want to dual boot with Elyssa. I have made an extra partition of 30 GB for Elyssa using Gparted. My question; Is it a good idea to use Gparted and make an extended partition and...

Re: CGI Scripts in Mint Menu
Thanks Husse, I was worried about this because I am a novice and because of the confusion. Glad to read it's not dangerous and that it just should not be in the Mint Menu. Thanks for the explanation. Could you mark my post as 'Solved' so that others are not worried when they read this. Have a nice d...

Re: CGI Scripts in Mint Menu
Is there ANYONE who can explain why I am the ONLY one (as it seems) who has CGI Scripts installed after a fresh install. I have installed Mint 4.0 Main Edition, the updates for it, (1,2 and 3 updates only) and the restricted driver (nVidia 100.14) How come I have a program installed which is normall...

Re: CGI Scripts in Mint Menu
Husse, I've found out, I have made a 'mistake' myself. While using Envy I downloaded and installed the necessary dependencies for it and I think this is why I have CGI Scripts in the Mint Menu. If I point my mouse over CGI Scripts in the Mint Menu, there is a textbox with 'CGI Scripts - Configure th...

CGI Scripts in Mint Menu
Hi guys, When i just looked in my Mint Menu I saw a program called CGI Scripts. It's new to me and I am sure i did not install it myself, also not as a dependency for something else. Could someone tell me what it's for? If I open it, I get a window with at the top "Configure.______KDE Control M...

Re: i need a good news reader
Pan is what I use and it works perfect although I must admit that I only use it to download stuff using Pan to import NZB files and let it do it's magic.
Well, magic.. it works like I expected it to do.

Re: .Trash on Flash drive.
If you select your flash drive in nautilus (just like when you double click to open ' Home' ) and select 'show hidden files' under the tab 'View' can't you remove the files in 'Trash' there?

My WD 320GB external (MyBook Essential USB 2.0) works flawless so it's not necessarily a WD/Mint issue

Welcome indeed. This is a great forum where you can also learn a new vocabulary as in sudo, root and waf.
The latter of course 'wife acceptance factor'. Not necessarily mint related though
Enjoy!

Re: Firefox is dead slow!
No problems here on 4.0 main edition, as fast as usual.
I only use NoScript and AddBlockerplus add-ons btw.
A reinstall doesn't work?

Markyb86, no offence taken.
