Re: Updating LMDE safely

I wish I knew the answer to that. My system completely died last night while I was using MintUpdate. I reinstalled this morning using the previous installation files (via flash-drive), but that was LMDE as at last September (I think). Accumulated updates since then have been running for the past 11 ...

Re: Error message: Failed to fetch ...

Thank you, zerozero . Thank you, squeezy . And thank you kc1di . Yes, it all worked fine. I hadn't noticed the "www" which somehow crept in there - senile dementia no doubt. And, squeezy, thanks also for the heads-up on how to obtain Update Pack 4 - but I think I'll play safe and stay with...

Re: Error message: Failed to fetch ...

Thanks for the prompt reply, kc1di. Which version of mint are you using mint lmde? Yes, I'm using LMDE. Error message: Failed to fetch ... (SOLVED)

My apologies if this has already been dealt with. I've read lots & lots but can't find the right answers. Today I received this error message: W: Failed to fetch http://www.debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia/dists/testing/InRelease W: Failed to fetch http://www.debian.linuxmint.com/latest/mu...

... you can "sudo apt-get install alacarte" and see if it works Thanks for the idea. I tried that and was informed that the latest version of alacarte was already installed. But, while I was messing around I accidentally fixed it all by myself: Right-clicking on Menu brings up an option t...

Reinstall it then. Open the terminal and paste this: sudo apt-get install --reinstall mintinstall Thank you so much, sagirfahmid3. I had no idea this "disaster" of mine could be fixed so simply. I have a tiny complaint, though: In Menu , my new Software Manager now appears in the section ...

My Software Manager has disappeared (SOLVED)

Yesterday I reinstalled LMDE. Don't ask why - long boring story which includes indiscriminate use of the delete key. Anyway, today, having done all the updates, I wanted to configure the fonts in LibreOffice and in particular remove those in languages I don't yet understand. So I opened up Software ...

Re: The type of questions asked here seems troubling

I was VERY nervous about tackling partitioning when I first used Linux. In those days I had stumbled across Ubuntu, and I posted a query on their forum. The replies I got were amazingly helpful. I've just re-read it, maybe it will help you: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1322870 As you wil...

Re: Where is my DVD drive?

I've been having that problem with Brasero also. seems like unless I burn at the lowest possible speed the system will not read it. I had one I burn that every DVD player in the house could read it but the one I burnt it on. Yes, I'll second that. I remembered reading this somewhere, and ...

Re: Why is there so little traffic on this forum?

Why aren't there as many people on this forum as on Ubuntu forums? The people on this forum don't seem to be as knowledgeable. The obvious answer to your question is that there are many more users of Ubuntu than there are of LinuxMint. When people decide to look further afield than Windows, I think...

@ hamtastesgood In writing this comment, I'm trying to be mindful of the fact that your primary language may not be English, although your username seems to refute this. If you rephrased your questions, you might get more positive responses. "Java does not appear to be working on my system; can...
