Plasma widgets stay in shape?
Girlfriend got a new laptop, as she was tired of my constant changing of DE's and configurations on our desktop (not so much anymore since i installed LMDE, i used to be much worse) It came preinstalled with w7 ofcourse and she was going to keep it that way. Two days later she was getting really rea...

Re: Where is it hiding??
I know the feeling, but the other way around... There's a clipboard program called "glipper", after you install it you can add it to your panel by right-clicking the panel -> "add to panel" -> clipboard manager. About the screensaver, if you open the control center -> screensaver...

Re: Re: Adding sid repo to stable
Firefox doesn't exist in debian. It's in the mint repos. What you are looking for is iceweasel 4 but last time I checked it was in experimental. I think iceweasel 4 is in squeeze backports. deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ squeeze-backports iceweasel-4.0 It should be safe for stable/squeeze users to ...

Re: Distros of interest and why.
I've got my eyes on Pardus, i installed it and ran it for a while and it is really really nice, and i never cared much for KDE before that, but now i have seen that it is possible to make a good KDE implementation, Its very polished and feels....expensive...It has a very nice Lancelot menu available...

There seems to be a little issue with changing the gdm wallpaper in LMDE, but don't worry you are standing on the shoulder of giants!

Re: LMDE half broken
I don't think there is any chance of it getting messed up just by switching the repositories to stable (squeeze). It sounds like you just want things to work and breakage do not amuse you, no? ;) I think if you want to have a rolling release like LMDE, stable would be the way to go for you, if you d...

Re: Anyone still tracking stable (squeeze)
i'm glad to see that lmde-stable is working well for you 8) if it's not asking to much, i think one how-to could be useful, just my 2cents, if someone wants to grab the idea. Open your sources.list file sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list Change every "testing" to "squeeze" and sav...

Re: Update Manager failed to fetch translation index
I did not do any updates today since i track the squeeze repos and i have this too, so i dont think it has anything to do with the update, it gets stuck at 99% [Connecting to packages.linuxmint.com (109.234.106.47) It looks to me it might be the server. P.S There is another recent thread with this t...

Re: Problem Fetching Translation index - header PLEASE HELP
I think there might be something with the servers, i get stuck at: 99% [Connecting to packages.linuxmint.com (109.234.106.47)] and /or 99% [Waiting for headers] when I apt-get update. Usually it works after a while, sometimes it gives up. This time it worked and i got this breathtaking speed: Fetche...

Ouch :? Can you access your debian file system from Suse? Do you have any kernels showing in /lib/modules ? I am afraid i don't have the knowledge how to help you in this case (i don't want to make things worse with my guesses) ... :( If you have to reinstall, do it with a separate /home partition (...

Can you boot the older kernel 2.6.32-5 or is that also gone?
If you can, install the newer one again.

I installed the new Virtualbox 4.0.6 r71344 on squeeze, works fine, no worries man ;) Edit: read your post again and saw that i misunderstood the question, i run LMDE but i am tracking the squeeze repos, anyway it works fine for me, i have not had as many updates as the "testing" users so ...

Hi, you can try to boot the recovery mode. If it works and the terminal opens, update with the command sudo apt get-update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade good advice Gerd, just fixing a typo so he doesn't have to suffer more than necessary ;) sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-u...

If stability is the question, why not just switch the repos to squeeze (stable) once you have your computer set up the way you want it? If for whatever reason some newer version of a particular software or library is neccessary then just swich repo, install it and then switch back again and you are ...

Re: What is the most userfriendly Linux distro ?
For user friendlyness, i have to say Pardus http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=pardus is really really smooth and looks GREAT. It is the only KDE distro i've liked so far, usually KDE gives me a rash after a while but this was smooth sailing all the way, i went for LMDE instead though bec...
